Description

A. F. BfiANDENBUBG. PEN BRUSH, APPLICATION FILED SEPT. I8, 1919.
1,353,625. Pate te sep 21, 1920.
Emmy-El iammo/whoa;
@vi bneoo ALBERT F. BRANDENBURG,
HARRY E.
= PEN-BRUSH.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ALBERT F. BRANDEN- BURG, a citizen of the United States, residing at Dayton, in the county of Montgomery and State of Ohio, have invented-a new and useful Pen-Brush, of which the following is a specification.
This inventionrelates to new and useful improvements in fountain pens, and more particularly to pens used by sign painters for painting signs or otherarticles wherein it is necessary to make relatively large broad lines. w v
The primary object of the present invention is to provide a pen having means to permit the operator to control the feed of the fluid from the pen, while the pen is in oper-. ation.
A still further object of the invention is to provide means for connecting a pen and its point, to permit of an automatic adjustment of the point with relation to its holder.
With the foregoing and other objects in view which will appear asthe description proceeds, the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts and in tional view of a pen constructed in accord-,
ance with my invention.
2 is a top plan view of the feeder.
Fig. 3 is a transverse sectional view taken on line 66 of Fig. 2.
Fig. 4 is a plan View of the spreader used connection with my invention. Fig. 5 is a transverse sectional view of the spreader taken on line 5-5 of Fig. 4, and
Fig. 6 is a longitudinal sectional view of the spreader taken on line 66 of Fig. 4.
Referring now to the drawingsin detail, reference character 5 indicates the holder of the pen, which includes a substantially tubu lar member formed of any suitable material, but preferably steel or brass.
One end of said member 5 is reduced as at 6, and is provided with annular shoulders 7 to engage the neck 8 of the flexible rubber placement of the connection.
Specification of Letters latent." Patented Sept. 21,192 Application filed September is, 1919. serial No; 324,396) I The rubber connection, as shown is substantlally cone shaped, to more conveniently lit the hand ofthe user, the reduced end thereof adapted to receive the rubber tube- 10, which in turn forms a seat for the brushor feeder 11'.
As shown, the feeder 11 is provided with i as at .13 to accommodate the substantially,
flat spreader 14 having a transversely curved angular end 15, the shank l5of said spreader being inserted between the tube 10 and the feeder, 11 for securing the same -within the holder.
It will therefore be seen that the curved portion 15 formsa pocket,,with the slot 12 for normally holding a quantity of fluid, at the feeding point. I
Secured within the reduced end 6 of the holder, is a rod 16, which has one end thereof secured within the rubber connecting member 9 and su onorts a s oon e 17 which sponge is of a size to substantially close the interior of the rubber c0nnect1ngmemher 9.
1 From the foregoing it will be seen that the .85 sponge 17 becomes saturated with fluid from r the handle 5, and a slight pressure on the rubber connecting member 9 compresses the sponge, and forces a quantity of fluid from.
the feeder 11.
- Having thus described my invention, what I claim is: i 1
In combination with a hollow pen handle, and a feeder, a flexible tubular member having connection with endsof the handle and feeder member, a spongesupported within the flexible tubular member and having its surfaces contacting with the inner walls of the flexible tubular member, whereby pressure on the flexible tubular member causes material'contained in-thesponge to be forced into the feeder.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing" as my own, I have hereto aflixed my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
ALBERT F. BRANDENBURG.
Witnesses:
' Cnon. HANCOCK,
Mrs. W. B. SHAFOR.
