new and useful Bolt-Keeper, of which the following is a specification.
The device forming the subject matter of this application is a keeper, adapted to be used in connection with a bolt on a door, and one object of the invention is to provide a keeper which may be mounted. in place without cutting away the amb of the door or disfiguring the outer-edge of the door j amb as is done when an eye of the common sort is mounted on the to receive the end of the bolt. 7
Another object of the invention is to pro vide a keeper of the sort above mentioned which, at the will of an operator may be inserted at one end between the stop strip and a j amb and be disposed in a horizontal position, or be mounted in a vertical'position on the stop strip or some other part of the frame in which the door operates.
It is within the province of the disclosure to improve generally and to enhance the utility of devices of that type to which the present invention appertains.
With the above and other objects in view, which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the combinathe precise tion and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that, within the scope of what is claimed, changes in embodiment of the invention shown can'be made without departingfrom the spirit of the invention.
In the accompanying drawings Figure 1 shows in front elevatlon, a portion of a door and door'jamb whereunto the device forming the subject matter of this application has been applied; F g. 2 1s a horizontal section taken through the bolt and the keeper as disclosed in Fig. 1; Fig.
3 is a sectional detail showing the keeper used in a way which differs from theapplication delineated in Figs. 1 and 2; and Fig. 4 is a perspective disclosing the keeper,
Referring to Figs. 1, 2 and 3, thenumeral 1 denotes a frame carrying a jamb 2 on which a stop strip 3 is mounted. A hinged door 1 is adapted to abut against the stop strip 3 and fits within the jamb 2.- A bolt as indicated at 8. The plate or keeper 7 is supplied with any desired number of apertures 9, located as convenient, and adapted to receive screws 10 or other securing devices. That end of-the plate or keeper 7 which is remote from the point 8 is provided with an opening 11. Intermediate its ends, the plate or keeper 7 is supplied with an opening 21, located nearer to one longitudinal edge of the plate than is the opening 11. I
In practical operation, the pointed end 8 of the keeper 7 is driven between the jamb 2 and thestop strip 3, thus holding the keeper in place temporarily. The screws 1O are then mounted in some of the apertures 9 and enter the amb 2.to hold the keeper '7 a in placepermanently. The end of the keeper 7 which is provided with the opening 9 projects beyond the jamb 2, as clearly disclosed in Fig. 2, the bolt 6 being received in the opening 11. The keeper 7 is thin enough so that it can be inserted into the space between the edge of the door 4 and the adjacent surface of the jamb 2. It is to be observed that the construction is such that the outer surface of. the jamb 2 is not marred or disfigured in any way, as occursif a common v keeper or eve is attached to the exposed outer face of the jamb. The pointed end 8 of the keeper 7 obviously, facilitates the driving 7 of one end of the keeper into place between the strip 3 and .the' jamb 2.
. In Fig. 3, the numeral 12 marks the frame,
, the door appearing at 1 1 and the stop strip at 15. The bolt casing is shown at 16 and carries thebolt 17. The keeper 7 is mounted the door or upon the inside of the door.
The keeper may be. fashioned at trifling expense out of stock which would otherwise be wasted and in mounting the keeper in place, it is unnecessary to cut away the door frame or mutilate the same otherwise.
in avertical position on the stop strip 15 and gated, flat plate pointed at one end, the plate" being provided adjacent to its other end, with a first bolt-receiving opening, the platebeing provided intermediate its ends with'a second bolt-receiving opening, the sec'ond" 0 amin bein located closer to one lon P a: c i
10 tudinal edge of the plate than is the first opening, the plate having an aperture for the reception of fastening means.
In testimony that I clairn theforegoing as my own, Ihave hereto afiixed my signa- 'ture in the presence of two Witnesses.
