Description
G. SELANDER.
CLINKER EXTRACTOR. APPLICATION FILED SEPT. 22, 1919.
1 ,358 ,428, Patented Sept. 21, 1920.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
GUS'I'AF SELANDER, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS.
CLINKEB-EXTRACTOR.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GUsrAF SELANDER, a citizen of the United States of America, and a resident of Chicago, in the county of Cook, State of Illinois, have invented certain new' and useful Improvements in Clinker-Extractors, of which the following gaging claw is connected in a pivotal and longitudinally adjustable manner to an ordinary poker rod to coact with the same in the clinker withdrawal operation, the said clinker engaging claw when not required for use being adapted to be moved back on the poker rod so as not to interfere with the ordinary use of such poker rod,
all as willhereinafter more fullyappear,
In the accompanying drawing Figure 1, is a perspective view illustrating-the implement parts in an open condition ready for engagement with a clinker to beremoved.
Fig. 2, is a side elevation showing the parts in a retracted and inactive position.
Fig. 3, is an elevation of the underside of the implement.
Like reference numerals parts in the several views.
7 Referring tothe drawing, 1v designates indicate like an ordinary poker rod, having at one end a suitable point 2 and at the other end an operating hand grip 3.
t designates a palrof radius links pivoted at one of their ends to the sides of the poker rod 1 adjacent to the hand grip 3,
nected at one end to swinging ends of the radius links 4:, and fixedly attached at its Specification of Letters Patent. Patented Sept, 21, 1920.
Application filed September 22, 1919.
Serial No. 325,287.
other end to the'head or claw 5 aforesaid. In the present invention the carrying rail 7 is of a concavo-convex or channel form in cross-section, so that in either of its hereinafter described positions it will fit snugly to the round shank of the poker rod 1, and be held from lateral play or movement.
8 designates an offset in the carrying rail 7 adjacent to the point of attachment of said bar to the radius links 4, and adapted to provide a convenient hand grip in-the action of clamping and holding a clinker between a side of the poker rod 1 and the head or claw 5 during a clinker extracting operation.
With the present construction, the clinker engaging claw 5 when not required for use is moved back out of the way on the poker rod 1, with the connecting radius links 4 swung back in a position next to. the hand grip 8 as illustrated in Figs. 2 and 3. When required for use the clinker engaging head or claw '5, is moved forward into operative relation to the point portion of-the poker Having thus fully described my said inrod 1, by, a semi-circular swinging movevention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. A clinker extractor comprising, a poker rod having a handle at one end and."
a clinker engagingv formation at the other end, a radius link pivoted to said rod near the handle end thereof, acarrying rail pivoted at one end to'said link, the said carry-.
ing rail having a concavo-convex form in cross section adapting the same for straddling engagement with the poker rod, and a clinker engaging claw attached to the free end of said carrying rail.
2. A clinker extractor comprising, a poker rod having a handle at one end and a clinker engaging formation at the other end, a pair ofradius links pivoted to the poker rod near the handle end and at op'po site sides of said rod, a carrying rail pivoted at one end between said links, the said carrying rail having a concavo-convex form in cross section adapting the same for straddling engagement with the poker rod, anda clinker engaging claw attached to the free end of said carrying rail.
Signed at Chicago, Illinois, this 20th day of September, 1919.
GUSTAF SELANDER.
