- To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, SAMUEL BERGER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Newark, in the county of Essex and State of New Jersey, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Sink Scoops or Shovels; and I do hereby declare the folfull, clear, and exact descripo'thers skilled tains to make being had to and to characters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.

This invention relates, provements in that class of the art pertaining to household articles; and,'the presen t invention has reference, more particularly, to a novel kitchen implement, in the form of a sink-scoop or shovel which serves the purposes of scooping up the refuse-matter which usually collects in the sink, the implein the art to which it apperand use the same, reference ment serving at the same time as a draining I that the scoop-body and implement, being provided with which readily permits the refuse-liquor and water usually scooped up with the instru-- ment when used, to drain from the scoop, so

The present invention, therefore, has for its principal objects to provide a novel and simply constructed kitchen-utensil, inv the form of a sink-scoop or shovel, in which the its handle are made in one piece, so as to avoid the use of rivets-or other means for securing the handle to said body, and, furthermore, to provide the scoop-body with suitably arranged means which serves to readily convey the refuse liquor and water, which may be scooped up, from said body so that only solid refusematter will remain upon the scoop-body, and that scoope -up matter canbe carried from the sink to the garbage-receptacle, without and possibility of liquid refusematter dripping from the implement .upon

Referring now to the said drawings, the reference-character 1 indicates a complete sink-scoop or shovel made according to the principles of the present invention, the same comprising a main body or scoop-member 2 wardly to form a handle 7, As shown, the i said main body or scoop-member 2 is provided at its longitudinally extending marginal edge-portions with upwardly extending side-flanges 8, the connecting spaces between said side-flanges 8 and said main body 2 being formed in a manner, so as to provide the upper surface of the said main body'2, contiguous with the said side-flanges 8, with marginal depressions or grooves, as 9, which provide suitable draining channels or ducts, as will be clearly evident. These parts of the said main body or scoop-member 2, as will be seen from an inspection of Figs. 3 and 4 of the drawings,'provide suitable downwardly extending supporting elements or ribs, as 10, which while providing reinforcing members, also produce suitable supporting members acting to slightly raise the lower surface of the main body or member 2, when the scoop is placed in the sink or upon a drain-board, above the surface of the said sink or drain-board, as will be clearly evident. The said main body or member 2 may also be provided, if desired, with suitably placed drip-openings or perforations 11. As shown, the member 6 and handle 7 are preferably provided with a marginal rib-like portions 13 thereof extending over the part 5 and for a distance upon the upper surface of the said main body or member 2, so as to provide the said channels or grooves 9 with proper discharge-ducts 14 at the rear ends of the respective channels or grooves 9, as will be more clearl understood from an inspection of said Fig. 1 of the drawings. If desired, the scoop or-shovel may be provided with an upwardly projecting reinforcing rib 15 which extends longitudinal and centrally along the main body-member 2, the

At its end-portion the said handle 7 may be provided with a perforation 16 for the suspenlsion of the implement from a hook or nai From the foregoing description it will be clearly seen, that I have produced a neat and simple construction of sink-scoop or shovel, which is easily made in a single plece, and which, when used for scooping up any refuse-matter, such as usually lodges 1n a s1nk, can be used, by placing the same by means of its supporting ribs '10 upon the flat sink-surface or upon the usual drainboard, as a draining means,the refuse-liquor or water that may be scooped up, draining off along the channels or ducts 9, or through the perforations 11 in the elevated bodymember 2, or by means of both said'channels and perforations, as the case may be. Of course I am aware that the invention is susceptible to some changes in the construction of the implement, without departlng from the scope of the invention, as set forth in the foregoing specification. I claim 1. A scoop or shove specified, comprising a main body ing a scoop-member, and extending from said body, being provided in its upper surface with drainage-channels, said channels having rearwardly extending discharge-ends.

2. A scoop or shovel of the character specified, comprising a main body providing a scoop-member, a handle connected with and extending from said body, said body being provided in its uppersurface with drainage channels, and the said handle being provided upon its upper surface with a marginal rib having its respective free endportions terminating upon the upper surface of said body contiguous the respective channels.

3. A scoop or shovel of the character specified, comprising a main body having longitudinally extending and upwardly projecting marginal side-flanges, a handle connected with and extending from said body,
