CAN-COVERING.
Application led July 18,
To all whom t may concern Be it known'that I, JosEPH M. HATFIELD, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Independence, in the county of Mono gomery and State of Kansas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements 1n Can-Coverings, of which the following is a specification.
My invention is an improvement in can coverings, and has for its object to provide a device of the character speci-fied especially adapted'for inclosing cans of nitroglycerinV and other explosives, wherein a relatively soft flexible cushioning casing is provided for containing the can and for covering every part thereof, to prevent the possibility of frictional Contact of the can with other objects. Y
In the drawings: 1
Figure l is a perspective View of the top of the covering; Y
Fig. 2 is a longitudinal section; n Fig. 3 is a section on the line 8 3 of Fig. 2.
The present embodiment of the invention is shown in connection with a cani for containing nitroglycerin or the like and of usual construction, the said can having thehandle 2 and the filling opening closed by the screw cap 3. The improved covering comprisesa casing l of rubber or the like, of a size to receive the can and shaped to fit thev can,A and two oppositeside walls of the coveringV have extensions 5 and G` forming straps adapted to be connectedto hold the casing in place on ythe can. Gne'of these straps,

1919. serial No. 311,723.
6 in the present instance, has a transverse ATENT OFFICE.
slot 7 near its free end through which is adapted to-be passed the other strap 6, and
thestraps are connected over the handle 2.'
Preferably, a cap 8 lits over the straps -5 and V6 and over the top of the can, com? swing the straps outwardly. The can is i placed, after which the straps are connected, and the cover is placed over the straps.'
I claim: l Y. Y A protective device for cans holdingA eX- p losives,.comprising a casing of rubber of a size and shapev to conformingly receive the can with the upper edges of the casing llush with the topof the can, the upper edges of opposite sides of thev casing being formed with integral reduced strip-likeextensions,
one extension being providedl with a trans' verse slotyand being of greater width than the other extension and said other eXtension-passing throughrsaid slot` whereby yto hold both extensions together, and a capV de'- tachably engaged exteriorly'upon said casing and covering the top of the canand said' extensions. 1
