DISPLAY-TABLE.
Specification of {Letters Patent.
Q. Patented Sept.;21192o.
Application filed January 22,1920. Serial n 353,320.
To all 40. mm it may concern I Be it known that I, EUGENE GRAHAM AN- siding at Seattle, in the countyof King and State of Washington, have invented certain new and useful Improvements'in Display- Tables, of which the following isa specification. 7 p t p This invention relates 'to display tables, and the primary object of the invention is to 5 provide an improved display table for dry goods stores or the like which is so constructed as to permit the ready display of bolted fabrics.
provision of an improved display 'table of the convertible type which'can' be either used as a fiat top table for notions or the like, or as an elevated table with inclined sides for the display of'bolted fabrics.
A further object of the invention is the provision of a table having an improved top embodying hinged leaves arranged to form a flat table top or to form supports for. a central elevated table top, the elevated cen- 1 tral table top being removable and arranged to form. a shelf when the leaves are folded .1 I I supporting the end panels 15, wh1ch will be hereinafter more fully. described, when the to form a flat'table top.
A still further object of the invention is the provision ofan improved display table of the above'character which is durableand efiicient in use, one that is simple and easy to manufacture, and one which can be placed upon the market at a reasonable cost.
Other objects ofthe invention will appear 1 vin the following detailed description taken in connection with-the drawings, forming a part of this specification, in which drawings: Figure 1 is a fragmentary side elevation of the improved table showing'the leaves in their lowered position. 5
Fig. 2 isanend elevation of the'same. Fig.3 is a fragmentary top plan view of the table showing the hinged leaves removed the: table being arranged for displaying bolted fabric. Q H 1 Fig; ,7 5 is a central transverse section through the table. showing the same in position for displaying. bolted fabrics.
Fig. 6 is an inner end elevation of the table showing the same with the top in its f Fig.
width and out of any preferred-material, and includes the frame 13 and the. top C. A further object of the invention is the against wallsor'other supports, and g 7 is a detail transverse section through the-same showing the table top in its elevated position for displaying bolted fabrics. 1 I Referring tothe drawings, wherein similar; reference characters designate "correspondlng parts throughout'the several views,
lowered position and showing the adapta- V p tion of the invention to a half table for use DERSON, a citizen of the United States, re-
the letter A-indicates the improved table,
which can be madeof any desired length or The frame NB; includes thesupp orting legs 10 arranged in spacedzpairs and braced intermediatetheir ends by transversebrace bars 11. The upper ends of thelegs 10 are connected'by longitudinal and transverse ledges-12 and 13; which'form supports for the :top 0 when the: same is "arrangedto form a flat top table. The upper ends of the surface of theledges l2 and 13 and the di-' agonal braces form means for receiving and table top C-is folded toform aiflat surface.
The table top "C includes the leaves 16 and 17 which are connected attheir outer longitudinal-edges by hinges 1am the upper ends of... the legs 101 Theouter longitudinal edges of the leaves 16 and. 17 extend slightly beyond the sides of the'frame, and carry the upwardly extending retaining flanges 19; Each learns adaptedtoextend to the'longitudinal center of the frame and the-inner edges of'the leaves 16 and 17 abut, :whenthe leaves are moved to their lower positions in engagement with the upper edges of the ledges 12 and 13 and form a ,continuous' unbroken flat surface;
When itis desired to form a table-with an elevated top having ine'lined sides for the display ofbolted fabrics-or :thelike,"the 'leaves 16' and 1'7 'arerswung" onlthe hinges 18 to an inclined-position, as clearly shown in' Figs-. 4' and 5 of; the drawings, and a i central removable leaf 20 is placed-in posi-. tion on theupper edges ofthe leaves-16and 17;? ,frhe meeting edges oftheleaves 16 and 1 17 are provided with lower rabbeted edges 21 and the central or removableleaf-20 has its longitudinal edges rabbeted asat 22 to 45 width as disclosed in Figs. l to with the exception that a single hinged leaf 28' is provided, which is adapted to engage a wall interlock with the rabbeted edges 21 of the leaves 16 and 17. When the leaves 16 and 17 are swung" to inclined positions, the re movable end panels 15 are brought into use and the same are of substantially truncated triangular form and their lower edges or faces carry dowelpins 23 which are adapted to fit in sockets 24 formed in the upper terminals of the legs. The upper edges of the I panels 15 also carry dowel pins 25'which are adapted to fit in suitable sockets formed in the lower surface of the removable central leaf or panel 20 so as to hold the same againstmovementin relation to the end panel. The leaves 16 and 17 also carry adjacent to their ends depending ledges or guide flanges 26, and these flanges are adapted to engage the inner surface of the transverse ledges 13 and serve to form '15 and the removable central or top panel 15 also carries a depending flange or ledge 27 for engaging ,the'end panel.
When the table is arranged for receiving bolted fabric, it is to be understood that the bolts are arranged on'the uppermost panel or central leaf 20' and the fabric is allowed=to hang down/over the inclined leaves 16, and 17 which permits the goods to In Figs. .6 and 7*is illustratedthe form be readily seen or handled by prospective customers. r
. When-the leaves 16 and.17 are swung to their lowered positions and the middle panelor central leaf 20"is removed, the same is placed on the top surface of the transverse bracebars 11 and the same forms a shelf :for receiving; suitable articles.
of the table when used as so-called half tables or wall tables and the same are'con structed exactly thesame as tables of full or other partition when the sameis in its folded position on the ledges. An end panel and the cross panel or central leaves 29'and 30 are each formed only half as wide as the end panels 15 and the central leaf or top panel 20 for the full table and the top panel orcentral leaf 30; isonly provided with one rabbeted longitudinal edge 31 for engagin vided'fordry goods stores, which may either be used as-a flat'top-table for notions orthe like or as a raised toptable with inclined ,sides for the display of bolted fabric.
. Changesin details may bemadewithout' departing from the spirit or invention; but,
I claim: 1., A display table comprising a lower frame and a top including a pair of leaves hingedly connected to the frame,a removable leaf carried by the hinged leaves", and removable end panels arranged to engage the frame and the leaves. 2. A display table comprisingv a lowen frame, a pair of leaves hingedly connected at their outer longitudinal edgesto the longtudinal edges of the frame, angular retaining flanges secured to the outer longitudinal" scope of my 3. A display table comprising a supportj ing frame, and a top including a pair of leaves hingedly connected at the longitudinal upper edges of'the frame, arranged to lie flat on the upper surface of the frame or at an angle thereto, and a removable center leaf arranged'to engage the inner edges of the leaves, when the same are arranged at an angle to' the frame, and transverse bracing strips carried by the frame arranged and disposed intermediate the upper and lower ends thereof to receive the center leaf when the hinged leaves are swung in engagement with the upper surface of the frame.
4. A display table comprising a supporting frame, and a'top including a pair of leaves hingedly connected tothe' upper longitudinal edges of the frame and arranged to lie flat on the upper surface of the frame or at an angle thereto, truncated triangular removable end panels arranged to be carriedv by the frame and support the leaves at an angle to the frame, and a removable center leaf arranged to engage'the inner edges of the leaves and the panel when the leaves are arranged at an angle to the frame.
5. A display table comprising a supporting frame, and-a top including a pair of leaves hingedly connected at their longitudinal outer edges to the upper longitudinal edges of the frame, and arranged to 'lie flat on the upper surface of the frame or at'an V g angle thereto, removable truncated trianguthe rabbeted mner. edge 32 of the leaf 28.-
From the foregoing-description it can be seen that: an improved display tableis pro- 1 lar end panels carried by the frame and arranged to support the leaves at an angle to rangedto engage the end panels when the leaves arein their inclined positions or to engage the frame when the leaves are laid flat io'nthe upper surface of the frame,"and
"verse brace bars connecting the legs, and
diagonally extending cross braces connecting the legs and arranged below the upper edges thereof, and a table top including leaves hingedly connected to the upper longitudinal edges of the frame and arranged to lie flat on the upper surface of the frame at an angle thereto, removable end panels carried by the frame and arranged to support the leaves at an angle to the frame, and a removable center leaf carried by the panels and arranged to engage the inner edges of the leaves, the end panels being adapted to be supported by the diagonal braces'when the leaves are laid flat on the upper surface of the frame. r
7. A display table comprising a lower frame, a leaf hingedly secured to the'frame, removable end panels associated with the frame and leaf,a removable top leaf adapted to engage the upper surface of the end panels and the inner edge of the first mentioned leaf, depending ledges carried by the leaves arranged to engage the inner faces of the end panels, and dowel pins carried by the end panels arranged to engage the top leaf and the frame, whereby the displacement of the end anels is eliminated.
