, UNITED STATES THoMAs IsAAo WALLIS, or EvANsvILLTIr INDIANA PORTABLE FOLDING TABLE Application led July 29, v
This invention relates to portable folding tables adapted for indoor or outdoor use, 'wherein the ltable top comprises foldable sections carrying foldable legs. n
My object is to provide a foldable table of improved construction Which can be quickly and easily folded into verycompact condition in fiat form, enabling the table to bereadily carried from place to'place and permitting iff easy stacking and packing or storage of a large number of the tables. v A further object is to provide an improved folding table having a sectional top, of Which certain of the sections carry improved foldable legs, the arrange-ment being such that the top sections may be extended out to form the complete table top, and the top sections and legs locked in position, or, the sections may be folded to completely enclose the legs 5F for purposes of arranging the table in compact form, as aforesaid.
While I have illustrated a practical embodiment of the invention in the accompanying drawings, and hereinafter described said embodiment, I Vam vvell avvare that the leg construction might be modified according to the use to Which the invention is to be put, further, that the table may be constructed of Wood or metal; also, modification may be 30 resorted to in adapting the table to any particular indoor or outdoor use, Without dey' parting from the mechanical principles in' volved. ThereforeI do not limit the inven. tion to the precise construction 'hereinafter described and Which is shown in the accompanying drawings, wherein:r
` Figure 1 is a cross-section, taken through one of the end sections of the table top, the table being in set-up condition; ff Fig. 2 is a longitudinal section, the table kbeing set up g Fig. 3 isa perspective view, showing the table completely folded; and
Fig. 4 is a bottom vieiv, the legs being folded but the top sections being open.
The top comprises a center section 1 and end sections 2, the end sections being hinged to the center sections at 3, in any suitable manner sothat When the end sections are 55 folded as shown in Fig. 3, the legs are en- 1929. serial No. 381,841.
er they are put in storage orare ',crated, or are 55 being transported in quantity.
The apron parts 4 of thesections of the table are provided with holes 5, of Which two appear in Fig. 3, for the reception of a tie rod o, *ig tended position, it being understoodthat all of the holes 5 .are in alinement. The tie rod 6 may be jointed so that When folded, it will lie inside of the folded table when in the condition shoWn in-Fig. l3. i
The table is supported by legs 7 Which are carried by the end sections 2, said legs having triangular loopedk parts 8 which are hinged in .metal pieces 9 and securedby suit able fastenings l0 to the under side of the 70 sections 2.
The lower parts of the legs 8 are encircled by eyes 11 of braces 12, said braces also having eyes 13 which receive the tie rod 6 When the table is inthe extended condition 75v shovvn in Figs. I and 2. Y Thelegs 7 and braces 12, are adapted to y fold into the sections l2 as shown in Fig. t'andthe said sections may then be folded over the section 1. Any suitable locking e0 means may be provided:y for securing the sectionsin their folded condition and, ifV desired, any suitable handlernay be used for attachmenttok the table When in its folded condition so .that it may be carried from place to place, as for instance,k when it is used asa camp table.
When the sections are opened out, the legs may be let down, and the tie rod 6 run through the holes 5 and through the eyes 13 lof the braces, whereupon the table is arranged as shown in Figs. 1 and 2the sections being locked and` the legs securely locked and braced.
When the table is folded'as shown in Fig. 3 the folded legs are vcompletely housed and concealed by the table top sections 1v and 2.
Vhat I claim is:
In a portable folding table, the combination With a center top section and end top 100 2, for holding the said sections in eX- e@ sections hinged to said center section and foldable against the Vsame side thereof, of
a pair of foldable legs hinged to, and bodily carriedv by, each end section, a brace hinged to each leg, and a releasable tie rod engaged with al1 of the top sections and with al1 of the aforesaid braces t0 lockzthe top sections and thele'gs Vin--extended position. i
Intestirnony whereof I aHiX my si nature.
