United States Patent FOLDING GAME TABLE Albert J. Fihe, Pacific Palisades, Calif. Application October 28, 1957, Serial No. 692,804
2 Claims. 01. 273-30 This invention relates to an improved folding game table and has for one of its principal objects the P ovision of a table having two separate top portions hingedly connected. Y
One of the important objects of this invention is the provision of a device-of the class described which will be simple of construction, easy of operation, composed of a minimum number of parts and which will at the same time be sturdy and long lasting.
Another important object of this invention is to provide a folding table which will be adapted for use as an article of furniture, for serving meals, various types of work, also for playing of various games such as tabletennis, or which can be employed for use in a hobby, such as model railroading or the like.
Other and further important objects of the invention will be apparent from the disclosures in the accompanying drawings and following specification.
The invention, in a preferred form, is illustrated in the drawings and hereinafter more fully described.
In the drawings, the figure shows part of a game table, wherein the two top portions are hinged together at their edges and with an integral net supporting bracket incorporated into the hinge construction. Any suitable supporting frame may be used for the table.
The table tops can be composed of various materials and combinations thereof, such as layers of plastic with inner reinforced ribs. Thin sheet metal similarly reinforced can also be employed so long as the requirements For a light weight strong top, an inner core or a honeycomb structure of paper or other similar material can be employed.
In the figure, the two table tops and 12 are, connected and hinged together by hinge plates 78 and 80; and the hinge pin 88 is provided with a net support 82 for a net 90 which includes an upright 84 on the end of the hinge 2,931,650 Patented Apr. 5, 1960 pin 88. The net can be fastened in place by passing the strings 86 through openings in the upright 84. The hinge plates 78 and 80 do not come apart at any time, and the upright 84 on the end of the hinge pin 88 can be maintained in desired vertical position in any suitable manner.
It will be evident that herein is provided a folding table which can be employed for many purposes, and which can be made of various sizes to meetzdifferent requirements, such as the serving offood, the playing of games,'as a work table or practically any such purpose. When not in use, it can be readily folded and easily moved out of the way and fitted into a relatively small space.
I am aware that many changes may be made and numerous details of construction varied throughout a wide range without departing from the principles of this invention, and I, therefore, donot propose limiting the patent granted hereon otherwise than as necessitated by the prior art.
I claim as my invention:
1. A folding game table comprising two top portions,
net supports, each of said net supports including a hinge* joining the top portions, an elongated pin for the hinge, a net holding bracket on the outer end of the pin, means whereby said net bracket and the pin may be rotated about the pin axis and adjusted longitudinally of the pin axis as a unit and means for maintaining the pin and bracket in its adjusted position.
2. A folding table-tennis table, comprising two top portions, hinges connecting the portions in foldable relationship, the hinges being adjacent the edges of the assembled top portions, brackets for supporting a net on the table, each of said brackets comprising an upright for holding the net and an integral pin at a right angle to the upright, said pin connecting the two portions of the corresponding hinge at said edges, said pin being rotatable and longitudinally movable in the connected hinge plates, there being means for holding the pin in its adjusted position relative to said hinge plates.
