To all whom it may concern East Orange, in the'county' of Essex and State of New Jersey, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Telephone Transmitters, of which thefo'llowing is a full, clear, concise, andexact description.
Thisinvention relates to telephone transmitters and'the like, and more particularly to a means for sealing the working parts of such apparatus against the entrance of moisture.
The invention provides a unitary structurecomprlsmg a front plate or mouthpiece member on which the working parts of the transmitter, for example, are mounted; The diaphragm anddampmg sprlng construction are preferably of the general type disclosed in the SCI'lbIlBI'l Patent 1,050,304,
dated January 14, 1913, inasmuch as this construction does not require the perforation of the diaphragm at its center, which had been considered necessary in previous constructions, to permit the attachment of the front electrode of the transmitter'button vto the diaphragm;

Itis often desirable to have a transmitter cut-out or cut-in button, and provision is made for a cut-1n button in the construction 20 shown. The backof the bridge 13 is pro- "'Vided with a fixed contact piece 25 insulated therefrom, and having a plurality of arms 26 and 27 the arms havingstops to limit the outward movement of contact springs 28 and 29 respectively. The springs 28 and 29 are secured ,to, but insulated from the sides of the bridge 13. The spring 28, while insulated from the bridge 13, is electrically lar manner. The spring 28 is separated from the arm. 26 by insulation 32, while the spring 29 norm-ally makes electricalcontact with the arm 27, as'shown. The invention is obviously also suitable for telephone receivers or other devices wherein itis desirable to hold a diaphragm or the like in place, and also to provide a seal between'the diaphragm mounting and a surrounding support or .casing.
What is claimed is: V 1. In-combination, a casing open at one end, diaphragm supporting means, a front plate, adia'phrag'm between saidsupporting means and plate, said diaphragm being smaller than the internal dimensions of the open endof said casing, a gasket of moisture proof cushioning material engaging the periphery of said diaphragm and extending beyond the same into engagement with the"- open end of said casing to prevent moisture entering said casing, and means to secure said front plate to the open end of said casing.

7 The combination with a unitary telephonic element, of a casing therefor open at one end, and means to secure to the open end of said casing; said unitary element comprising a transmission device, supporting means therefor, a diaphragm smaller than the internal dimensions of the open end of said casing to cooperate with said device and carried by said supporting means, and a gasket of moisture proof cushioning material engaging said diaphragm and the open end of said casing to prevent moisture entering said casing.
8. The combination with a unitary telephonic element, of a casing therefor open at one end, and means to secure said element to the open end of said casing; said unitary element comprising a transmission device, supporting means therefor, a diaphragm smaller than the internal dimensions of the open end of said casing to cooperate with said device and carried by said supporting means, a front plate, and a single gasket of moisture proof cushioning matei rial between sald front plate and supporting means, said gasket also engaging the open the open end of said casing,
