To all in ham it may concern Be it known that we, ALBERT S. KELLAM and NORMAN F. NoRvnL citizens of the United States, residing at Richmond, in the county of Henrico and State of.-Virginia-, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Valves, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings.
This invention relates to certain improvements in valves, and itis an object of the invention. to provide a novel and improved device of this general character whereby the same can be readily and conveniently locked in such a manner as to materially reduce the possibility of the valve being operated by an unauthorized person.
A further object of the invention is to provide a novel and improved valve par-.
ticularly designed to be interposed in a fuel line leading to the carbureter of an internal combustion engine, together with means.

The invention consists in the details of construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts of our improved valve whereby certain important advantages are attained and the device rendered simpler, less expensive and otherwise more convenient and advantageous for use, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.
The novel features of our invention will hereinafter be definitely claimed.
In order that our invention may be the better understood, we will now proceed to describe the-same with reference to the accompanying drawings, wherein:

As disclosed in the accompanying drawings, B denotes an elongated body preferably cast of metal and with its longitudinal axis vertically disposed when the device is in applied position. The lower portion 1 of the body B is transversely enlarged and preferably rectangular in plan, while the upper portion 2 of the body is cylindrical in form.
The portion 2 of the body B is provided with a longitudinally directed bore 3 in communication at its lower end with a longitudinally directed and slightly tapered valve seat 4: extending within the lower portion 1 of the body, and. snuglyarranged within the valve seat 4 for turning movement is the valve plug 5.
The valve plug 5 has transversely disposed therethrough a port 6 adapted to register or aline, when the plug 5 is in one position, with the opposed ports 7 In communication with one of the ports 7 is apipe 8 or other suitable conduit leading from a source of fluid supply, while in communication with the second port? is a pipe 9 or other conduit leading to a suitable point of discharge. Insertible within the bore 3 is a cylindrical lock L preferably of the well known pin tumbler type and radiating from the upper or outer end portion of the barrel 10 of said lock is a longitudinally disposed wing or vane 11 which snugly engages within a longitudinally disposed pocket or recess 12 formed in the wall of the bore 3 and which pocket or recess is open at its outer end so that the lock L maybe readily applied.
The wing or vane 12 holds the barrel 10 against rotary movement when applied within the bore 3 so that the same will be held in a fixed position relative to the plug 5 so that the device in its entirety may be assembled with convenience and facility.
- The outer or upper end portion of the the key K. The lower or inner end portion been moved into a closed a blade 17 engaged within the transverse .slot 18 formed in the upper or outer end of the plug 5 so that said plug 5 will be caused to rotate in unison with and in the same general direction as the member 16. The inner or opposite end of the plug 5 is provided with a recess 19 (Fig. 5) which is preferably segmental with the side Walls thereof perpendicularly related. Extending within said recess 19 is a pin 20, preferably threaded through the body B, and which coacts with the walls of said recess 19 to limit the rotation of the plug 5 in either direction.
We also find it of advantage to loosely position upon the'bottom or inner end of the valve seat 4 a plate 21 of desired thickness and which serves to prevent the plug 5 from becoming wedged or seating too tight within said valve seat. In other Words, the plate 21 operates to permit the plug 5 to be rotated with a minimum of frictional resist: ance. It is also to be understood that the plate can be readily removed so that the plate applied may be of a thickness to fully meet the requirements of practice.
Our improved valve as herein disclosed is particularly adapted for use in connection with the pipe line leading from a source of fuel supply to the carbureter of an internal combustion engine, and when the plug 5 has position to prevent the flow of the fuel throu h the pipes or conduits 8 and 9, the key movable, so that the possibility of the plug being returned to open position by an unauthorized person is substantially entirely eliminated.
From the foregoing description, it. is thought to be obvious that a valve constructed in accordance with our invention is paris readily re-.
ticularly well adapted for use by reason of the convenience and facility .with which 1t may be assembled and operated, and it will a also be obvious that our invention is susceptible of some change and modification without departing from theprinciples and splrit thereof and for this reason we do not wish to be understood as limitin ourselves to the precise arrangement and ormation of the several parts herein shown in carrying out our invention in practice except as hereinafter claimed.
