2 SHEETS-SHEET 2- UNITEDISTATES MATTHIAS E; VAN BROCKLEN AND RICHARD rmrnnn, or. AMSTERDAM; NEW YORK.
Application filed January 3, 1920. Serial No. 349316.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, MATTHIAS E. VAN BROGKLEN and RICHARD HAIDEN, citizens of the United States, andresidents of Amsterdam, in the county of Montgomery and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Roller- Cleaners, of which the following is'a specification.
Our invention is an improvement in roller cleaners, and has for its object to provide a device of the character specified, adapted for use with spinning mules, for cleaning the rollers of the spinning jacks, wherein the arrangement is'such that when the cleaner is placed upon the roller, it will travel the full length of the roller, thoroughly cleaning the same, and requiring no supervision on thepart of the spinner, and it may be used upon many machines.
In the drawings:
Figure l is a front view of the spinning jack showing the device in place,
Fig. 2 is a diagrammatic end view,
Fig. 3 is a section on the line 33 of Fig. 4,
Fig. 4 is a plan View of the motor for the cleaner,
Fig. 5 is a side view of the cleaner,
Fig. 6 is an end view of the same.
In the present embodiment of the invention, a motor is provided comprising a substantially channel-shaped support or carriage, consisting of a body 1 and side walls 2, the side walls depending from the body in spaced relation.
This plate has openings 3 on opposite sides of its center in the body thereof. In each of these openings there is mounted a roller 4, each roller having journal pins 5, which are engaged in bearings 6 on the body, and the peripheral surfaces of these rollers are roughened or corrugated as shown to provide surfaces for gripping the roller to be cleaned.
The axes of the two rollers are inclined in the same direction, and are parallel, and a suitable handle 7 is connected with the support, for convenience in handlingthe same. This handle is connected at its end to the ends of the body, by means of screws 8 or the like, and a coupling lug 9 is provided at one end of the body, the adjacent end of the handle being connected with this lug.
The cleaner as shown in Fig. 5 comprises I ROLLER-CLEANER.
I Specification of Letters Patent. I
a body portion l0 and winglplatesll which i are connected to the side'sof the body by screws 12, the wing: plates dependv well below the body. These Wing plates engage the roller '13 to be cleaned,- and'act as cleaners thoroughly scraping the roller, as the motor moves the cleaner longitudinally of the roller.
The-body 10 of the cleaner hasapair of perforated cars at oneiend, and these ears are spaced to receive-the lug 9 before men:
tioned. This lug has an are shaped slot 14, and a coupling pm 15 is passed through the slot and through openings 16 in the ears. This opening permits considerable vertical movement ofthe pin with respect to the lug.
A guide is provided at one side of the motor, for engaging an adjacent roller to prevent overturning of the motor by the rotation of theroller' 13 to be cleaned. As, shown more particularly in Fig. 2, the yarn indicated at 17 passes from the drum 18 over a drum 19 to the roller 13 being held in close contact with the undersurface of the roller 13 bymeans of rollers20 and 21 which are arranged on opposite sides of the roller 13 and below the same.
The guidefor the motor 12 engages the yarn at roller 21, which is in rear of the roller 13 -This guide is a T-shaped memher, the stem portion 22 thereof having a longitudinally extending slot 23, and this portion 22 extends transversely of the sup- I 7 port l2 between the openings 3.
V peripheral surface of the roller 21."
In operation, the motor with the cleaner attached is set on the roller 13 to be cleaned.
. It will be obvious that as theroller 13 rotates the motor will be driven longitudinally thereof, because of the peculiar arrangement of the rollers 4. As'the motor moves it draws the cleaner with it, and the peripheral surface of the roller 13 is thoroughly scraped. When the motor reaches the end be reversed, and willreturn to the other end, the element 25 now being on the other side of the support.
Assoon as the motor is lifted out of con tact with the roller or 21 it will stop.
the said drum, and the engagement of this cross head portion of the guide with the yarn Prevents such tilting movement.
WVe claim; Y l f 1. Adevice of the character specified, comprising alchannel-shaped support having "openings in the body thereof, and rollers j ournaled intheopenings and having their axes inclined to the long axisofthe support forthe purpose specified, and a guide arIn extending laterally from the support and. adjustably connected therewith".
2. A device of the character specified, comprising a channel-shaped support having openings in the body thereof, and rollers journaled'in' the openings andhaving their axes inclined to-the long axis of the support for thepurpose specified, and a channelshaped cleaner pivotally connected to the motor and adapted to be drawn thereby.
3. A device of thecharacter specified, coniprising a channel-shaped support having openings in the body thereof, and rollers journaled in the openings and havingtheir axesinclinedto thelong axisjof the support for the purpose specified.
