Description
U1\TITED STATES PATENT Orrron.
ALOIS NISSLE AND JOSEF SOHGBERL, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
IMPROVEMENT IN ROCKING-CHAIR FANS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 135,282, dated January 28, 1873.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, ALOIS NrssLn and J OSEF SCII'O'BERL, of the city, county, and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Fanning Rocking-Chair, of which the following is a specification:
Figure l is a vertical longitudinal section of our improved fanning rocking-chair; and Fig.
in the application of a weighted lever to one of the chair-rockers, and in its connection with an endless cord which passes over a pulley on the spindle of the rotary fan. The lever rests with its weighted end upon the floor, and remains thereon; and, consequently, as the chair is rocked the relative positions of the rocker and lever will be changed, and the cord u hich passes over the friction roller hung on the rocker, will be drawn over the roller and pulley, so as to rotate the latter and revolve the fun.
In the drawing, the letter A represents the rocker of the chair. B is a lever, pivoted at a to the rocker, and weighted at its rounded rear end, so that it may always rest and remain on the floor at that end. The other end of the lever is elevated and connected with an endless cord, 0, which passes over the friction roller 1), that is hung at the inner side of the rocker A, and over the pulley d, hanging in the upper part of the chair-frame, back of the same. The spindle c of this pulley passes through the back or at the side of the same, and carries at its front end the fan D, of suitable construction.
As the chair is rocked, the relative positions of rocker and lever becoming changed, the cord will be drawn over the pulley and roller so as to rotate the fan alternately in opposite directions; the change of directions keeping pace with the oscillations of the chair.
The lever may, if desired, be in substantially the same manner connected with two or more cords to operate two or more fans on the same chair; or the same chair may be provided with two levers, B, one on each rocker, and each connected with one or more fans.
Having thus described our invention, we claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- The combination of the weighted lever B, endless cord 0, and rotary fan D, frictionrollers b, and pulley d, with a rocking-chair, for operation substantially in manner herein shown and described.
ALOIS NISS LE. JOSEF SOHOBERL.
