FASTENING-BRACKET FOR THE MITERED ENDS 0F TIMBEBS OR THE LIKE,
Specification of Letters Pate t.
Patented Sept '7,
Application filed February 17, 1919. Serial No. 277,570.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, EMIL WIR'lH, a citizen of the United States, residing at Waukomis, in the county of Garfield and State of Oklahoma, have invented new and useful Improvements in Fastening-Brackets for the Mitered Ends of Timbers or the like, of which the following is a specification.
The present invention has reference to a means for connecting the mitered ends of timbersor the like.
The primary object is to construct a corner bracket from a single piece of metal shaped to provide right angularly disposed pairs of arms and an angle connecting portion therefor, the said arms receiving therebetween timbers or the like which are secured to the said pairs of arms, and the mitered ends of'the said timberscontactmg with or resting against the angle connecting portion for the pairs of arms.
The drawings illustrate a satisfactory embodiment of the invention reduced to practice.
In the drawings z- Figure 1 is a side elevation illustrating two timbers having mitered ends connected by the improvement.
Fig. Qis a similar view but showing the manner in which two of the parallel arms may be bent at the edges thereof to embrace therebetween a rounded timber. 7
Fig. 3 is a View of the blank from which the fastening element is constructed.
Fig. i is a perspective view of the fastening means per 86.
Fig. 5 is an approximately central vertical longitudinal sectional view through the construction illustrated in Fig. 1.
The timbers or plates which are to be connected by the improvement have beveled or mitered ends. In Fig. 1 of the drawings both of the timbers 5 and Gare square or rectangular in cross section, whilein Fig. 2 of the drawings the timber 6 is round in cross section. V 7
As disclosed in Fig. 3 of the drawings, the means for connecting the timbers is struck from blank of metal, and comprises a body portion 3 which has angle portions 2 formed at the edges thereof. The portions body, to provide spaced parallel arms, and
the body is designed to be bent at the points mac,
9 and 10 to also provide parallel arms, the I said arms being arranged at a right angle with respect to the arms 2, while the portion 11 of the body, between the opposed pairs of arms, is disposed at an anglecorresponding to the pitch of the beveled or mitered ends of the timbers of plates 5 and 6. The pairs of cooperating arms are provided with boltopenings 4, and the timbers 5 and 6 are provided with similar bolt openings.
By reference to Figs. 1 and 2 of the draw- 7 timbers are bolts 6, which are engaged by.
nuts 7.
From the foregoing description, it will be seen that the arms of the fastening means engage the right angularly opposed faces 01'' sides of the respective timbers'5 and 6, and that the wall 11 provides an abutment for the mitered or beveled ends of the said timbers. 7
.Having thus described the invention, what I claim, 1s:
1. A corner bracket for connecting the mitered ends or timbers or the like, comprising right angularly arranged pairs of spaced arms which receive therebetween the timbers and to which the said timbers are secured, and an angle connecting portion for the arms against which the mitered ends of the timbers contact.
2. A bracket for connecting the confronting mitered ends of timbers or the like; comprising a member struck froma blank of metal and shaped'to provideright angularly disposed pairs of parallel arms which receive the timbers therebetween and are secured thereto, the connecting wall be tween the pairs of arms being disposed at an inclination corresponding to the pitch of the mitered ends of the timbers and receiving such ends thereagainst and one pair of the arms having their faces disposed in a line with the edges of the second pair of arms.
In testimony whereof I aflix my si EMIL WI TH.
ature.
