A TTU/NIE V8 UNITED STATESPATENT foFFICE.
SAMUEL' REUBENy melanin iraniani,
sAirronnHss/Evnnsom0F nRADY, MONTANA.
To all whom tf/nay concern: n
"Be it known thaty I, SAMUELI Remnantk Lrniga citizen ofthe United' States, and a `resident offBrady, in the county of'Pon-` deraand Statejof Montana, have invented 'certain newand useful' Improvements `in Clamps, of theffollowing is a specification.
My invention an improvementy in',k clamps, andthe invention has for itsobject to provide a clampjespecially adapted fory use with tubsto clamp a cover of flexible material on the tub, without the use of nails, b
` 'In practice, th'e'wire 3 is'corrugated or f staples or the like.
In the drawings:
f Figure 1 is a perspectivey viewof the top of a tub providedwith the improved clamp;
Fig. 2 is a plan view ofthe clamp detached; ,y f y l Fig. 3 is a front view of the clamp;
Fig. 4 is a section on the lline4-4 off Fig. 2;
Fig. 5 is a front view of the inner section of the clamp. Y l f. The present embodimentgof the invention is shown in connection with a tub 1, suchy as are used for holding ice cream and the like, the tub having a cover 2 of flexible material, and the clamp is clamped about the top of the tub, with Lthe edge of the cloth between the clamp and thevtub.
The improved clamp comprises a wire 34 which is adapted to encircle 'the topy of the tub outside of the cloth, andthe ends of the wire are connected with clamping memfrom the pivotal connection with the otherr member, the wire passing through an open-p ing 7 in the said end. This member 4 is also providedat its loweredge with an outy wardly extending perforated lug 8 v which limits the downward movement of the memn ber 5 with respect to the said member 4,-' and` the member 5 has asimilar lug 9 which is superposed upon the lug 8 -when the members are in clamping position. f
The other end of the wire 3 isconnecte'd to a pin 10 on the member 5, just'above they lug 9, which is nearer the pivotal connection of the member 5 than thefother end.
The wire is bent around the pin and then around itself, as indicated at 1,1.
` Specification of v1'..etters y. 1-"attent ivioiv'rANA, AssfGN-on oF `oivE-'HAL` ro ythe member 4, to provide a handle "for convement kengagement by the user. Atfthe end adjacent to the pivotal connection the member 4 has a plate 12 securedE thereto bythe n p o Patented? Spamie'zo. Appiicatyinmed novembe, 1919.' y serial-NQ. .sys/,384.A
y `Referring to Fig. v3,/it willbelnoticed thaty i the' member 5 at its freel end extends beyond rivet @which-forms the pivotal connection, y
fandthis plate, as shown, is beveled downn wardly, ybeingfof less thickness at its lower edge.V rAt its upper edge ithas lan outstand- -the tub to preventup'ward slipping ofthe ylamp and to firmly clamp the cover to the provided with zigzag portions, indicated at ingrib'. 13, and this rib is adapted to engage 3a, for providing resiliency, that is, expansion and contraction; v Inuse,ktoplace the clamp the cover is lplaced on the top of the tub, the wire 3 is in the dotted line position of Fig. 3, that is, the member 5 is swung `upwardly awayfrom they member 4k on the pivotal connection 6. .This increases the length of the wire and after the wire is properly placed the member 5 is swung down intovralinement with the arranged about the cover, with the clamp ik member 4, thus tightening the wire about the tub. When the lugs 8 and 9 are super posed aseal,` indicated at 14, may be inserted through the opening, to prevent un-V s authorized tampering out detection.
claim: n I i -1. A fastener for fastening flexiblecovwith the .clamp withers on tubs, comprising a wire adapted to n i embrace the coveron the tub and a *cl-amp `for connecting the ends of the wire, said clamp consisting of .two members pivoted together'at oneend, one end of ythe wire being connected kto one of the members at the other end, and the other member having atKV the said other end a" grip or handle, the other end of the wire beingl connected to said other member f intermediate the v ends -thereof,and means for limiting the closing movement of the members to a. position where they` are superposed, saidv meanscomi prisingperforated lugs l adapted for abutting and to receive a seal, the vfirst named Connectingl the ends of the Wire, said clamp consisting of two members pivotedy together at one end, one end of the Wire being eonnected to one of the members at the other v end, and the other member having attire said other end a grip' or handle, the other for engaging the tub to prevent upward movement of the clamp.
3. A fastener for fastening flexible Gov- Y ers on tubs, eomprlsinCr a Wire adaptedto embrace the Cover on the tub-and a clamp 'for connecting the ends of the Wire,rv lsaid clamp Consisting of two 'members pivoted toether- 4 at one end, one end of the Wire being connected to one-0f the members at the other end, and the other member having at the `said other end a grip or handle, the other end of the Wire being connected to said other memberintermediate the endsther'eof, and
means'for limitingthe Closing movement of the members to a position Where they are 'superposed, said means comprising perfo- Hrated lugs adapted for abutting and to receive a seal. Y
LA fastener for fastening flexible COV- ers on tubs',-'eompris`ing a Wire adapted to embrace the cover on the tub, and aclamp for connecting the ends ofthe Wire, said Aela-mp consisting of-tWo members pivoted together at one end to swing with respect to each other in parallel planes7 one yend of the Wire being connected to one of the members at the other end, .and the other member having at theV said other end a grip Vor liandiej the other end of the Wirebeing connected toY said other member intermediate the ends thereof, and means forlimiting the closing movement of the members to a position YWhere they are snperposed.
