IDOFFING MECHANISM FOR FLIER SPINNING, TWISTING, DOUBLING, AND ANALOGOUS MACHINES.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Aug. 31. 1920.
Original application filed March 12, 1918, Serial No. 222,009. Divided and this application filed July 31.
To all whom it may concern:
lie it known that l PniNcn SMITH, Jr., machinc-maker, subject of the King of (treat Britain, residing at Burlington Shed, Keighley, llorkshire, England, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Doffing Mechanism for Flier Spinning, Twisting, Doubling, and Analogous Machines of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to dotting mechanism for flier spinning, twisting, doubling and analogous machines, and has for its object to provide a simpler and more effective method of dofling than what has been employed previously.
This application is a division of my prior application filed March 12, 1918, Serial No. 222,009.
According to this invention the lifter plate with full bobbins is lowered on to a horizontally reciprocable rack which depos its the said lifter plate with full bobbins on to cam operated receiving means which remain stationary while another lifter plate with empty bobbins is placed in proper alinement so that it can be lifted up to the desired height for spinning.
The empty bobbins are positioned on another lifter plate which is adapted to rest on the horizontally reciprocable rack and behind the full bobbins in such a position that when the full bobbins are moved forward over the cam operated receiving means, the empty bobbins are in proper alinement and ready to be lifted up to the spinning position.
The cam operated receiving means consist of a number of spindles slidably mounted in bearings and adapted to be operated by means of suitably shaped cams. The lower extremities of the spindles may be provided with anti-friction bowls.
The horizontally reciprocable bars are recessed to receive the lifter plates.
The vertically reciprocable bars may be operated by means of racks and pinions, chains and pulleys or in any other suitable manner.
The invention will now be described with reference to the accompanying drawings Serial No. 241517.
which show in side elevation the various positions of the dofling operation of one form of mechanism constructed in accordanrc with this invention.
Figure 1 shows the frame spinning with bobbins 2 full and ready for dotting and empty bobbins 3 with lifter plate 4 shown in the position occupied during spinning.
Fig. 2 shows the lifter plate 5 with full bobbins 2 lowered on to the racks 6 and said racks 6 moved forward, going with plates 5 and full bobbins 2 over the spindles 7 by operating the shaft 16 by means of a hand wheel on same.
This movement leaves the empty bobbins 3 and lifter plate 4 in their proper alinement and ready to be lifted up to spinning position.
Fig. 3 shows lifter plate 5 with full bobbins 2 lifted up to positions shown (viz: high enough to allow the rack 6 to return at its appointed time) by operating shaft 8 and cam 9.
Lifter plate 4 with empty bobbins 3 are lifted up to spinning position by the ordinary lifter spindles or pokers and rack 6 returned to normal position and Fig. 4 shows the cutting apparatus 10 lifted up by operating shaft 11 in conjunction with toothed wheels 12 and toothed racks 13 to position shown, in which position the threads 1 are severed after a few revolutions have been given to the fliers 15.
During the time the frame is spinning and at the convenience of the operatives the full bobbins 2 are removed from plates 5 and replaced by empty ones.
What I claim is 1- Dofling mechanism for flier spinning, twisting. doubling and analogous machines embodying a vertically movable lifter plate for carrying empty bobbins, a vertically movable lifter plate for carrying full bobbins, a horizontally reciprocable rack having a plurality of recess-es for receiving said lift-er plates, the lifter plate recess for the. empty bobbins being disposed in the rear of the lifter plate recess for the full bobbins, and receiving means immovable at intervals and vertically movable at other times for engaging and raising the lifter plate with the full bobbins to permit the return move- In testimony whereof I have hereunto set ment of said rack, said recesses being so my hand in presence of two subscribing Witspaced that when the lifter plate with the nesses.
