Description
PATENT OFFICE.,
JOHN C. EGLY, OF PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA.
IMPROVEMENT IN SEWING-MACHINE-COVER HOOKS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 135,100, dated January 21, 1873.
To all whom it may concern:
, Be it known that I, JOHN C. EGLY, of Philadelphia, in the lcounty of PhiladelphiaJ and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and Improved Movable Sewing-Machine-Uover Hook, of which the following is a specification:
Figure l is a face view of my improved sewingmachine-eover hook. Fig. 2 is a face view of the same without the slotted plate that holds it in place; and Fig. 3 is a sectional view thereof on the line It k, Fig. 1.
Similar lettersY of reference indicate corresponding parts.
This invention relates to a new means of applying a hook-fastening to the cover of a sewing-machine table, so that if the wood of the cover or table should' shrink or warp the fastening may be adjusted to the change and not necessarily become useless. At present, sewing-machine covers are fastened to the tables with two hooks each, said hook-connections being formed at'the back part of the cover, while in front a lock is applied. When the table shrinks the cover cannot be locked, or only with great difficulty.
My invention consists in making the hook adjustable in a recess of the table, and in combining it with a slotted plate, whereby it is held in place.
A in the drawing represents part of the sewing-machine table; B, part of the cover.
C is the hook by which the cover is applied to the table. The shank a of this hook is made in form of a dat rectangular plate, and lits a recess or mortise, b, in the table, wherein it has backward and forward play. A plate, d, is fitted to the table as a cover to this mortise, and is fastened by screws c c, so that it bears upon the plate a. The hook proper projects through a slot of this plate, as shown. When the desired position has been assigned to the hook, the plate l is firmly screwed down, and bears upon the plate d, so as to hold the hook in place. If the table should shrink or the cover, so as to require the readjustment of the hook, it is only necessary to slightly loosen the plate d, reset the hook, and then refasten the plate d. This invention also makes it convenient to fit covers to tables when either is not of the exact size required.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- The adjustable hook G, arranged in combination with the slotted fastening-plate d, substantially as and for the purpose herein shown and described.
