T 0 all whom it may concern Be it known that I, Josnrrr T. BnooDEN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Providence, county of Providence, State of Rhode Island, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Bathing-Hats, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.

This invention relates to ladies bathing hats, more particularly to that type in which a relatively large and loose fitting hat body of waterproof material is held on the head of the wearer by an elastic band engaging the forehead and encircling the head below the ears, whereby wetting of the hair is prevented. A common defect in these hats as previously constructed is that they slip down on the forehead and must be continu ally adjusted.

The object of the present invention is to provide a bathing hat which is light, simple and water-tight in construction, and which while loosely fitting the head above the band, is so constructed that the band and hat body cannot slip down on the forehead of the wearer.

Fig. 2 is a sectional view illustrating more clearly the construction of the anti-slip bands.

Referring to the drawings, 1 designates a bathing hat body which is loose-fitting, and has an elastic head band 2 encircling the forehead of the wearer. The body may be formed in any desired shape, and while in the present instance it is made of rubber, it is obvious that any suitable waterproof material may be used. The numerals 3 and 1 designate anti-slip bands which are adapted to extend over the head of the wearer at an angle to each other, the opposite ends of each band being connected to the upper inner edge of the headband 2, and the bands also being connected to each other at the point of crossing forming in effect a net work. It is desirable to have the bands 3 and 4 elastic, and in the present instance they are made of rubber.

By this construction when the hat is placed upon the head of the wearer with the band 2 in proper position it is prevented from slipping down by the anti-slip bands 3 and 41 which closely engage the head of the wearer. The flexible hat body, as clearly shown in Figs. 1 and 2, is larger than the band, and being connected to the band only at its periphery can move freely from side to side or otherwise in accordance with the impact of the water or movements of the wearer. It is obvious that the number of these bands may be increased when desired.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim and desire to protect by Letters Patent is:

1. In a bathing hat, a frameless and seamless collapsible water-tight hat body of a size larger than the head of the wearer and at its open end closely fitting the head, and

a flexible interior openwork body connected to the first one and adapted to conform to the head whereby the hat body is prevented from slipping down on the head.

2. In a bathing hat, a frameless collapsible water-tight hat body of a size larger than the head of the wearer, and a plurality ofcrossed and interconnected elastic strips adapted to extend over and contact with the head of the wearer within the hat body, Each strip being connected at its ends to the 3. In a bathing hat, a collapsible watertight hat body of a size larger than the head of the wearer and having an elastic head band, and an elastic interior open-work body connected to the band and adapted to closely fit the head whereby the hat body and band are prevented from slipping down on the head.

4. A bathing hat comprising a frameless collapsible water-tight body having an elastic head band, and a plurality of elastic strips each connected at its ends to opposite sides of the band and adapted to extend over the head of the wearer within the body, to thereby properly locate the hat on the head.

5. A bathing hat comprising a loose collapsible water-tight body having an elastic head band, and a plurality of crossed and interconnected elastic strips adapted to extend over the head of the wearer, each strip being connected at its ends to opposite sides of the band, whereby the hat may be prevented from slipping down on the head.

6. A bathing hat comprising a frameless collapsible water-tight body having an elastic head band, and collapsible elastic means secured to the head band within the hat body and adapted to conform to the head of the wearer.

7. In a bathing hat, an elastic head band adapted to conform in watertight relation to the head of the wearer, a collapsible watertig'ht hat body of a size larger than the head connected to said band and freely movable in all directions with respect thereto.
