V UNITED STATES" JOE HUTTNER, OF SIERRA MADRE, CALIFORNIA.
LID-HOLDER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Aug. 10, 1920.
Application filed January 2, 1920. Serial No. 349,097.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, Jon IIUTTNER, a citizen of Austria, residing at Sierra Madre, in the county of Los Angellesand State of California, have invented new and useful Improvements in Lid-Holders, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to holders and particularly to lid holders, and has for its object to provide a device of the kind that is simple, inexpensive, substantial, and may be readily hung or mounted within convenient reach as for instance on the wall surface or cupboard surfaces in kitchens or other places so as to hold lids and other an ticles and enable the same to be readily deposited and removed from the holder, and the invention consists of the construction and details an embodiment of which is illus trated in the accompanying drawings and described and claimed herein.
Figure l is a front elevation of the device as mounted and in use.
Fig. 2 is an edge view broken away.
Fig. 3 is a front View of the device detached from the support.
Fig. 4 is an edge View of the same.
Fig. 5 is a transverse section on line 5-5 of Fig. 3. i
The holder comprises a unitary device preferably constructed of wire the main elements of the holder being bent to form the supporting and retaining means all from one piece of wire, and if desired an additional supporting means may be provided by the attachment to the main member of another piece of wire.
In its illustrated embodiment the main structure of the device consists of an in. verted U-shaped back component or element 2 having its top bent at 3 and downwardly extending sides 4 that may be slightly divergent at the lower ends which are then bent forwardly and upwardly at the hooks 5 which are extended thence upwardly in the arms 6-6, these being inclined outwardly and upwardly from the back part 4, and the upper ends of the arms are bent outwardly at the elbows 7 and thence extended subof the same partly .stantially horizontally as at 8, the extensions being inclined rearwardly toward the plane of the back 4, the ends of the front extremities 8-8 being bent rearwardly as at 9), the bends being in a substantially horizontal plane and their extremities each directed inwardly as at 10-10 in the plane of the back of the element at.
The ends of the inwardly extending portions 101O are respectively carried across the adjacent back bar t over to the next bar and bent over the same as at 11, the bends 11 being clenched down to embrace the respective upright bars or portions 414= therefor forming a rigid device whose lateral bends 9-9 form side stops or retaining means for an inserted cover, lid, plate, or the like at 6, Fig. l, the lower edge of which rests upon the seats or hooks 5 formed at the bottom of the upright back bars 4.
The device as above described is made of an integral piece of wire of suitable length bent intermediate its length to form the suspending hook or how 3 and having the stretches of the wire extending from the bow 3 bentas above described to form the elements as above identified.
To further increase the utility of the device asa holder other supporting means may be attached to or formed thereon and in this case an auxiliary support is obtained by securing to the front portions of the hooks or seats 5 a tranvere bar in the form of a piece of wire 15 twisted as at 16-16 about the front portions of the hooks or seats 5 and thence directed outwardly on each side to form the horns 17 on which may be hung various devices such as spoons with eyes as at S objects P with a hooked stem.
It will be seen that if the cover, lid, plate, or other object to be inserted into the holder has a central knob, as shown, that this is adapted to pass freely into the open passage way formed between the upright side arms 66.
Various changes may be made without departing from the spirit of my invention as claimer.
I claim:
1. A utensil holder including a single piece of wire bent downwardly in the middle, forming a back, then forwardly and up wardly to a point substantially midway of its height, forming lower seats, then'outwardly at each side forming side seats, and then inwardly and connected at their ends to the portions of the wire forming the back.
2. In a utensil holder formed of a single piece of wire bent downwardly to form a U-shaped back with the bend at the top, the

extended portions then bent upwardly, spaced substantiallyparallel to a point approximately lower seats, from each other in a substantially horizontal plane to a part remote from the back, thence inwardly toward the hack and toward its midway of its height forming thence outwardly and awayvertical center, forming side seats, the respective ends thereof overlapping and bent around the remote back'member. 10
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this'specifioation.
