PENNSYLVANIA, ASSIGNOR TO HIMES COHEN TRACTOR (10., OF GROVE CITY, PENNSYLVANIA.
TRACTOR-PLOW.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Aug. 10, 1920.
Original application filed March 1, 1919, Serial No. 280,121. 'vided and this application filed June 17, 1919. Serial No. 304,818."
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WALTER H. HIMES, a citizen of the United States, residing at 420 incoln avenue, Grove City, county of Merf Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in specification.
hisinvention relates to improvements in tractor plows.
- The main objects of this invention are:
First, to provide an improved tractor plow or hanger means which permits ing these advantages which is convenient to manipulate, simple in structure and at the same time strong and durable.
'in Fig. III is a detail plan view with various Further objects, and objects relating to structural details, will definitely appear from the detailed description to follow.
accomplish the objects of my invention by t e devices and structure embodying the features of my invention, certain parts being shown conventionally for convenience in illustration.
Fig. II is a rear elevation with parts shown broken sections.
parts omitted.
In the drawing similar reference characters refer to similar parts throughout the several views. In the accompanying drawing, I have illustrated only a portion-of a tractor plow of the alternating type as shown in my application for Letters Patent, Serial N 0. 280,121, filed March 1, 1919. My present application being a division of that application in which I claim the plow adjusting means, therefore, I only'show such parts of such adjusting means in this application as have particularly to do with the featu'es to .which this applicationis directe Referring to the drawing 1 represents the running gear frame and 2 the traction or driving wheels. The driving means and connections form no part of this invention and are therefore not described herein.
The plow 3 is provided with a beam 4 which is connected to the draft bar hangers draft bars are plow beam is the subject of my said original and is therefore not described in detail herein. The plow is raised from and lowered to the ground and supported laterally by a mechanism comprising the hanger or supporting bar 9, th
bar havlng arms'10 arms 10 are preferably connected by the cross piece 12 to strengthen the same, the cross piece, bar and arms being preferably an integral casting, as illustrate beam is provided with a cross arm 13 near the rear end thereof. The supporting bar has spherical bearing members 4 at its ends and the arm 13 has similar spherical bearing members 14: at its ends. Links \15 having sockets coacting to these he means for actuating the shaft 18 is not illustrated or described in detail as it forms no part of my invention. Manual or power means or both I desired.
With this arrangement of are supported to yield laterally to pass an o struction such as a The plows are mainposition even though may be provided as I have not attempted to illus-v with a beam, a
trate certain modifications and adaptations which I contemplate as I believe the disclosure made will enable those skilled in the art to which my invention relates to adapt or embody the same as may be desired.
, Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by etters Patent, is:
1. In a plow, the combination with the running gear frame, of a plow provided with a beam, a draft means on said running gear frame connected to the front end of said beam, a cross arm at the rear of said beam, a supporting bar pivotally mounted on said frame, said bar and said arm having spherical bearing members at their ends, links having bearing sockets coacting with said bearing members on said bar and arm at the ends thereof, crossed springs connected to said Jinks, an operating chain connected to said bar, and means for adjusting said chain to raise and lower the plow.
2. In a plow, the combination with the running gear frame, of a plow provided with a beam, a draft means on said running gear frame connected to the front end of said beam, a cross arm on said beam, a supporting bar pivotally mounted on said frame, links connecting the ends of said bar to the ends of said arm, crossed springs connected to said links, a supporting chain for said bar, raise and lower the plow.
I In a plow, the combination with the running gear frame,, of a plow provided draft means on said running gear frame connected to the front end of said beam, porting bar pivotally mounted on said frame, links connecting the ends of said bar and arm, and crossed springs connected to said links.
4. In a plow, the combination with the and means for adjusting said chain to a cross arm on said beam, a supframe, of a plow provided with' a beam, a I
11ft means connected to the front end of said beam, means for raising and lowering the front end of the said beam, a cross arm at the rear of said beam, an adjustable supporting bar mounted on the frame, links connecting the ends of said bar and. arm, means foryieldingly holding said links in parallel relation, and means for raising and lowering sziid supporting bar to raise and lower the p ow.
5. In a plow, the combination with the frame, of a plow provided with a beam, a draft means connected to the front end of said beam, means for raising and lowering the front end of the said beam, a cross arm at the rear of said beam, an adjustable supporting bar mounted on the frame, links connecting the ends of said bar and arm, and means for raising and lowering said supporting bar to raise and lower the plow.
(3. In a plow, the combination with the frame, of a plow provided with a beam, a draft means connected to the front end of said beam, a cross arm at the rear of said beam, a supporting bar mounted on the frame, links connecting the ends of. said bar and arm, and means for yieldingly holding said links in parallel relation.
7. In a plow, the combination with the frame, of a plow provided with a beam, 2. draft means connected to the front end of said beam, a cross arm at the rear of said beam, a supporting bar mounted on the frame, and links connecting the ends of said bar and arm.
In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal in the presence of two witnesses.
WALTER HIMES. [1 s] Witnesses:
