UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
RICHARD HENRY STEPHENS, 0F BIRMINGHAM, ENGLAND, ASSIGNOR 0F ONE-HALF T0 KYNOCH LIMITED, OF BIRMINGHAM, ENGLAND.
VAPOR-STOVE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Aug. 3, 1920.
Application filed `anuary 23, 1920. Serial No. 353,474.
To all whom t may concern:
Be it known that l', RICHARD HENRY STEPHENS, subject of the King of Grreat Britain, residing at Birmingham, England, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Vapor-Stoves, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to oil or spirit vapor stoves of the type in which oil is raised from a container through a central supply conduit to a vaporizer. Y
The object of the present invention is to provide improved means for carrying the grid and securing the supports to the container.
The grid is supported by means ofeyes or loops upon its underside engaging hooked upper ends of rod supports which are inclined toward the center of the container, and are ixed to the pre-heater or spirit cup at the top of the oil container by passing them through arch parts or bridge pieces carried by the side of the cup and by engaging them within holes in a flange at the upper end of the said cup.
Figure l of the accompanying drawings is a vertical section through a vapor stove constructed in accordance with this invention, the oil container being shown in elevation.
Fig. 2 is a plan of the stove.
Fig. 3 is a section on line Fig. l.
Fig. l represents a section on w1, Fig. l, showing the preheater in plan.
The grid 2O consists of a casting or stamping in the form of aring having, at equidistant points around its periphery, a number of radially-disposed rests -or supports 21 for the cooking utensil, whichv beneath these rests are depending eyed lugs 22 arranged in a plane at right-angles to the respective rests. These eyed lugs are engaged by outwardly bent hooks 23 at the upper ends of a series of rod supports 24 which are inclined in a direction toward the center of the oil container 25, their lower ends en;
tering a pre-heater or spirit cup 26 fixed to the top of said container. This spirit cup 26 is of conical form, with air-inlet 27 apertures in its upper part, and its upper edge is turned in at right-angles to form a flange 28. This iange is pierced with holes 29 to receive the supports 24, which f are also passed under arch parts 30 raised out of the wall of the cup. By this means the grid is rigidly supported in position. Air-inlet holes are also provided at 3l.
The construction of the spirit cup as indicated above insures a better and quicker combination of the spirit and at the same time protects the flame from drafts, and by reason of its height and the formation of the top, the valve spindle 32 is protected from the heat of lpre-ignition.
The method of supporting the grid, as described above, allows of the entire stove being lifted by the said grid.
If necessary, the arch parts 30 may be separate pieces secured to the inside of the v cup, instead of being raised out of the walls.
Having fully described my invention, what I desire to claim and secure by Letters Patent is In a vapor stove, the combination with a. fuel container of a preheater cup carried by the top thereof and having a flange at its upper end, a grid having eyes upon its underside, rod supports inclined downward toward the center of the container and passed through holes in the flange of the preheater, arch parts carried by the side of the preheater cup and engaged by the rod supports, and hooks at the upper ends of the roddsupports engaged with the eyes of the gri In testimony whereof I havehereunto set my hand in presence of two subscribing witnesses.
RICHARD HENRY STEPHENS.
