Description

0. BISSUN.
SAW SET.
N IL
AP v 3, 1919. 1,348,622. Patented A118" 3, 1920.
(JD 9 /0 'l UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
OMER BISSON, OF CALLAWAY, MINNESOTA.
SAWSET.
Application filed May 3, i919.
To all whom t may concer/n lle it known that l, OMER BissoN, citizen of the United States of America, residing at Callaway, in the county of Becker and State ot' lvlinnesota, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Saw-Sets, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in salir-:sels more especially designed for circular or cross-cut saws While it is equally adapted vfor use in setting` the teeth of all hindi. oi' sans. irnludiufj the common buriaavv etc.
The inlontion has for its object to pro fide for readily.y quickly and effectively setting' the saw-teeth, also to provide for the lmldinf; of the saw blade firmly as against casual` accidental or shifting movement when performing;l the filing or sharpening operation; also to regulate the tooth setting operation.
llrith these objects in vievv, together with others which will appear as the invention more fully disclosed, by the following deseriptiim and acromjmnyin ,tf illustration, the nature thereof consists of certain instrumenta ies and features of constrnctiem subsiant sy as hereinafter fully described and speciliiaily pointed out by the appended claims.
lu the ateoinpanying drawings illus`- irate-ii the preferred embodiment of my invention and wherein it will be understood that various changes and modilications as relate to the detailed construction and arrangement of the parte may be made without departing from the spirit or scope ot' the claims, and in which drawings:
Figure l. is a front elevational view of my innrroved sawset:
Fin'. 2 is a central sectional elevation thereof on a line through the sa\v-tooth clamping or setting' elements and the guid in;`lstud of one of these and its receiving slot,
Fig. 3 is an end view looking in the direction of the arrow Fig. l.
ln carrying out my invention. l provide a holder or member l, in practical use being preferably in the form of a frame and wooden, said frame or holder being adapted to receive a mandrel or shaft 2 which eX- tends clear through said holder. Said holder has at one end a ledge or flange 3 projecting therefrom at its forward edge, and formed within -said end and said ledge Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Aug. 3, 1920.
serial No. 294,509.
is an approximately V or Y shaped recess or depression l for the reception of the sawblade tooth to be operated upon or set.
The mandrel or shaft 2, which is preferably cylindrical in transverse section, has integral with one end thereof a laterally projecting head. or projection 5, positioned to extend beyond the ledgeequipped end of said mandrel or shaft and adapted to cooperate with a l'lat or stub-ended screw for effectingl the saw-tooth' setting yoperation again ,referred to. said screw beinnT threaded lo work in thc ledge f5 and be projected thercbevoiul. The projected cud of the zweren' is thus adapted to be opposed to the projection of the mandrel head as shown in lligs. l and 3 whereby with the sanwtooth disposed upon said stubbed end of said screw, the projecting portion of the head 5 of the mandrel or shaft 2 may be suitably brought forcibly down upon the tooth, as in cillecting;1 the requisite dellecting or operation of the saw-tooth, presently more fully disclosed. The stub-ended screw 6 is received below the ledge or flange 8 of the holder or member l, in a li'ingitudinal groove or recess T formed in said holder or member for the guidance of said screw G, said groove or rt ess being` in continuation of the threaded passage in the ledge or flange 3 receiving,r said screwv For `uidance ot thc mandrel or shaft rectilinearly and against turning in said holder i1, the mandrel or shaft is provided with a lateral stud 8 received Within a longitudinal slot l) formed in said holder. By suitably adjusting the stub` ended screuv the amount of set or deflection ot' the savv-tooth may be readily varied or regulated as is apparent. this being readily effected hy applying suitable means as a wrench or pincers to the outer end of the screw and suitably aclllatingl the same.
The mandrel or shaft 2 is equipped or encircled by a preferably helical spring li) vfitli one end resting upon a shoulder ll of said mandrel andits opposite end resting;r upon an annular shoulder l2 upon the Wall of the bore or interior surface ot' the holder or member l, said spring serving to auto-4 matically expel or project the mandrel or shaft from the latter as the handle or crank 13 is reversely revolved upon said mandrel.
The hand or crank 13 has a freely turning screw connection with the mandrel or shaft 3, exteriorly of the holder l, whereby,y upon turning the crank or handle to the right,
the mandrel or Shaft is drawn inWardl bringing its head or projection 5 down, Wit effective action, upon the saw-tooth as called lor in effectingr the setting operation as previously herein set forth and at the same time compressing and putting the spring l() under tension for the purpose as above described.
It is thought that from the foregoing description of the construction, arrangement and combination of parts, my invention will be readily understood for its effective applicationi and use.
1 claim:
A device of the type-described7 including a holder having a laterally `projecting flange, a stub-ended screw, a guiding recesl.` or groove for said screw, a nd crankequipped mandrel rereived Within said holder, and having a laterally projecting head cooperating with said sri-ew for engaging an interposed object, one end ol said holder and said lateral llange thereof having formed therein a continuous depression of approximately Y outline, receiving the projected end of said screw and said mandrel head, said holder havingr a longitudinal Slot opening through one end thereof and Said mandrel having a lateral stud received and guided by said Slot to retain said mandrel against turning.
In testimon whereof I aflixlmy signature in presence o two Witnesses.
