To all whom it may; concern Be it known that 1, JOHN PETER Were, a. citizen of the United States, residin at Nyaclc, in the county of Rockland and tate of New York, have invented certain new and useful improvements in Sewing-lilachines and Cutting lllechanisins Therefor, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to sewing machines and cutting mechanism therefor. Some features of the present invention relate particularly to the combined cutting-and-sewing machine described in my United States Patent No. 1,114,082, granted October 20, 1914;, while other features of the invention are of more or less general applicability. However all the features in the present invention constitute improvements in the coinhined cutting-and-sewing machine mentioned, and the objects of the invention are generally so to improve the combined cutting-and-sewing machine that it will be more highly eilioient and du able when operating at a very high speed. In actual practice the top shafts of the sewing machines contained. in the combined cuttingand-sewine' machine are operated at a speed of about 4000 revolutions per minute and are stopped instantly by the stop-1notions described below, arresting, the needles instantly at the con'ipletion of their up strokes. This great speed desirable for high productivit introduces man into many portions of the co gnbined cuttingand-scwing machine in its entirety, and to insure durability and eflicient relations'of cooperating parts under the actual condi- .tions due to the great speed at which the Sillllg-jlllilfilllllii top-shafts are operated reqliires a minimum of all strains and stresses throughout the entire machine and a lubrieating svstcni of ellicient capacity and action. home of the new features of the present invention relate particularly to the manufacture of union suits, which are an important product of this combined cutting and-sewing machine.
