1 7 L f y To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that'I, HERBER WV. Jnsrnn,
a citizen of the United States, residing at Dallas, in the county of Dallas and State-of Texas, have invented. certain new and useful Improvements in Churning Devices, of which the followingis a specification.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in churning devices.
The invention has particularly to do with that type in which a carrieris suspended between coiled springs, and supports a churning receptacle;the churning being effected by vibrating'the carrier andrecipro eating the receptacle. a
The object of the invention is to so fasten the receptacle in the carrier that its cover may be removed without disturbingthe can or loosening the receptacle in. the-carrier; andat the same time secure thecover on the receptacle so that the contents will not splash or leakout..- 1 Y r A stillfurther object is to provide a means of the fastening of the "receptacle in the carrier whereby the receptaclernay be quickly, easily and simply fastened in the carrier or freed from the same; and to do so with a structure involving a minimum number of parts, all of which are attached either to the carrier or receptacle so as not to be likely to et lost or misplaced and to lend to the simple, convenient and eflicient operation of the device.
The invention will be more readily understood from a reading of the following specification and by reference to the accompanying drawings, in which an example of the invention is shown, and wherein:
Figure 1 is a front elevation of a churning device embodying the invention,
Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the carrier and receptacle, the carrier bail being omitted,
Fig. 3 is a sectional view of the receptacle,
Fig. 4 is a cross sectioh on the line 4-4- of Fig. 3, and i I Fig. 5 is a detail of one of the fasteners.
In the drawings the numeral designates a U-shaped jaw or cradle having a base bar 11 at the center of its bottom, spaced equidistantly on each side thereof and at right angles to said cradle. At its rear end the bar has an upturned stop 12. Near the middle of the cradle a semicircular guard band.
13 overhangs the rear half of the base bar and has its forward ends fastened to the cradle. p

HF g-Y v 1 HERBERT wyzrnsrnn. or harms, TEXAS.
I Immediately-below the band the downturned ends 14: of'bail arms 15 .are secured.
The armsare directed outward from the cradle and have their outer ends integral with a vertlcal rigid bail 16 standing in the samevertical plane withthecradle. The' ball is somewhat widerithan the cradle soas to be spaced therefrom. Theseparts conend of the spring being attached to bracket An eye 20 depends from the center of the 'bottoni of the cradle and isattache'd to the upper end of a coiled spring 21 which has its lower end secured to. an eye 22'fastened in the floor. I
A receptacle comprisinga can 23and a cover 24: is mounted in the carrien The .front side of the carrier being open the can is readily inserted, the bottom engaging the stop 12' and the rear side coming to-rest. against the band 13.-. It will be seen that the canmay be easily set" into the carrier and lifted therefrom by means of its handles 23'. The can has a screw-threaded collar 25 at its mouthand the cover 24 is screw-threaded so as to screw onto said collar. f necessary a packing gasket may be used and such a gasket 26 may surround the collar so that the flange of the cover may be screwed down onto the same, but this is not essential.
The can projects above the cradle and at substantially right angles to its handles has outwardly directed keepers 27. These keep ers are notched and have lips 31 on their undersides and rigidly secured to the can, Bosses 28 are firmly mounted at the upper ends of the cradle and this structure may be suitably formed. Eccentric levers 29 are pivoted to the bosses and each has an outwardly directed cam flange 30 adapted to ride into the notch of the adjacent keeper and engage over the lip 31 (Fig. 5) of said keeper. It will be seen that by swinging the levers upwardly the flanges 30 will ride over the lips 31 and owing to their eccentric mounting, said flanges will tend to draw the attached to the canand the cradle. It will be seen that the can may be easily and quickly fastened in the cradle and likewise removed. a
The bail permits a free and accessible handling of the fasteners andit 3150.1)615 mits the cover 24'to be removed at will to inspect the churning withoutj loosening the can in the carrier. It is necessary that an adequate. fastening of the cover be had and against the dasher 32, whereby the butter fats, and: the milk are agitated.
, What Iclaim is 1 1.111 a churning device; a carrier including a substantially U-shaped element, a base bar secured to the bottom of the U-shaped element'and extending transversely thereof and having oneend bent upwardly to form a stop, a Ueshaped guard" band? secured. to
the U-shapedelement and extendingv transversely thereof toward: the stop a can re- .movably mounted within the carrier; keepers secured to the can pivoted elements carried by the 'Ushaped elementto engage the keepers. and draw them downwardly; an inverted U-shaped bail substantially larger than the can and connected with the U-shaped element; a removable cover for the can; a spring connected with the bail; and a second spring connected with the U-shaped element.
2; In a churning device; a carrier including-a substantially U-shape'delement, a base bar-secured to the bottom of the U-shaped element and extending transversely thereof and having one end bent upwardly to form a stop, a U-shaped-guard band secured to the U shaped element near its center and extending transversely thereof toward the stop, whereby'one side of the carrier is open; a'can removably mounted within thecarrier; keepers secured to the can near its upper end; pivotedelements carried by the upper end of the U-shaped element to engagethe keepers and draw them downwardly; an
- inverted [Ll-shaped bai'l substantially larger than the can and connected with the U-shaped element near the U'-shaped guard,
said Ushaped bai l affording ample space between it and the can; a removable cover for the can; and yielding. means connected with the bail and the U-shaped element.
Intestimony whereof I affix my signature.
JESTER.
