Specification of Letters Patent. Patented A111 3, 1920.
Application filed February 3, 1920. Serial No. 355,970.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ANDREW PREBBLE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Al toona, in the county ofWilson and State of Kansas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Game Apparatus, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to game apparatus in which balls are thrown at stationary objects or targets; and it consists in the novel construction and. combination of the parts hereinafter fully described and claimed.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a front view of a game apparatus constructed according to this invention. Fig. 2 is an end View of the same. Fig. 3 is a detail view 01": one of the disks or targets.
A suitable supporting frame A is pro vided having a series of horizontal bars B arranged one above another at suitable distances-apart. Disks or targets C are pivoted by hinges D to the bars B, and are arranged at suitable distances apart horizontally.
Each disk or target is pivoted to the bar at a point below the center of gravity of the disk, and a stop 6 is provided on the bar which permits the target to stand in a substantially vertical position, as shown in "full lines in Fig. 3, and which permits it to tilt backwardly to the position shown in dotted lines when the upper part of it is struck by a ball. The hinges D are hook-shaped so as to engage with the bars B which are circular or have circular bearing portions. A pair of hinges D is bolted to the back of each target, and the two hinges of each pair are arranged parallel to each other. The stops 6 are secured to the bars B between the two hinges of each target, and they each have a downwardly projecting arm and a rearwardly projecting arm for the target to rest against.
The disks or targets are numbered in any suitable way with different numerals in the horizontal rows, and the success inplaying the game is calculated by the num rals according to certain predetermined rules; In order to make the game apparatus more portable, and adapted for use on picnics, the frame is made of knock-down parts. The bars B are secured at their ends to .uprights 7 which have'spikes 8 for engaging with the ground. Back braces 9 are pivoted to thetops of the uprights, and are held in place by cross braces 10, and diagonal braces 12. The space between theback braces can be left open, or can be provided with similar braces if desirable.
hat I claim is;
A game apparatus, comprising a frame provided with horizontal bars, numbered targets arranged in rows, hook-shaped hinges secured in pairs to the backs of the said targets and pivoting them to the said bars at points below the'centers of gravity of the targets, and stops secured to the bars between the pairs of hinges, each stop being provided with a downwardly projecting arm and a rearwardly projecting arm for limiting the pivotal movements or the target.
In testimony whereof I have aiiiXed my signature.
ANDREW PR BBLE.
