UNITED STATES "PETER MALACOS AND STEVE CANELLOS, OF CONHELLSVILLE,- PENNSYLVANIA.
I PAPER-HANGING DEVICE.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that we, PETER MALAcos and STEVE CANELLOS, subjects of the Klng of Greece, and residents of Connellsville, county of Fayette, and State of Pennsylhave invented certain new and useto provide an improved construction of tool.
by means of which paste may be applied to a strip of wallpaper as the latter is unwound from the roll and by means of which such strip may be conveniently applied to a wall. 7
A further object is to provide a structurally improved and simplified device of the type disclosed in the patent to Malacos, No. 1,288,093, dated December 17, 1918.
The invention resides in the structural features and combination which will hereinafter be described, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 is a side elevation of the invention;
Fig. 2 is a sectional perspective View of the paste reservoir and paste-applying roller;
Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the supframe; and
Fig. 4 is an elevation of the back of the paper-applying brush.
Referring to the said drawings, in which like designating characters distinguish like parts throughout the several views- 1 indicates the opposite similarly-shaped side members of a supporting frame, and 2 a transverse member rigidly connecting the front ends of said side members, said transverse member having attached thereto a suitable form of handle, as 3. Said memhers 1 have formed thereon or provided therein suitable rests, as those constituted at the inner ends of the curved slots 4, upon which may be seated the opposite reduced ends of a removable roller 5, adapted for carrying a roll 6, of wall paper.
Disposed between and carried by the side members 1 of the frame is a casing 7, preferably of sheet metal, which, as herein shown, is approximately rectangular in cross section, and which is designated as a reservoir or container for a liquid adhesive or paste that is to be applied to the reverse Specification of Letters Patent.

surface of the strip 8 of paper as the latter is unwoundfrom the roll 6. r
The reservoir 7, is formed with a longitudinal'ly-extending outwardly-facing trough'9 in its rear edge portion, said edge portion having an approximately semi-circular' form in cross section. Fitted more or less snugly in said trough is a roller 1() which is provided with a covering 11 of felt, velvet or other suitable material, preferably velvet carpeting or other material having a long nap. Said roller 10 has reduced ends 12 'journaled in su-itable bearings, as those afforded by brackets 13 mounted upon the ends of the reservoir.
Provided at suitable intervals in the ca's-' the side members 1 are the ends of a paperapplying brush 16 which is so arranged that the bristles thereof are pro erly located for utilization for applying yie ding pressure to the paper strip as the latter is applied to the wall, said strip leading from contacting relation with the brush 15 to and under the brush 16 and thence upward in front of the latter.
As shown in Fig. 1, as the paper strip is unwound from the roll 6, it is passed rearwardly to and upward over the roller 10, thence over and in contact with the spreader brush 15, thence to, under, and upward in front of the brush 16. In passing over said roller 10, the strip frictionally engages and produces rotation of said roller resulting in the application to the adjacent face of said What is claimed is 1. In a paper hanging device, a mounting for a roll of paper, a paste reservoir having an approximately flat top surface, said reservoir being disposed over said mounting,'a sealing brush located over the forward end of said reservoir, said reservoir having its rear wall reentrantly curved in semi-circular form to provide an outwardly and unwardly facing trough, said trough being provided with perforations, and a paste-applying roller rotatable'in said trough and substantially conforming to the contour of the latter, said roller being so located with respect to the position of the paper roll and said brush that, in unwinding from said roll, paper is drawn over said roller and thence passes in a substantially horizontal direction over said fiat surface of the reservoir to and under said brush.
2. In a paper hanging device, a mounting for a roll "0 paper, a paste reservoir disposed over said mounting, sald reservoir having its rear wall reentra'ntly curved whereby is formed exteriorly of the reservoir a rearwardly facingtrough, said trough having perforations opening thereinto through said curved wall, a paste-applyingroller rotatable in said trough and supplementing the latter to provide a regularly curved convex path for the travel of the paper over the rear end of the reservoir, a paste-distributing ,brush over which said paper passes after leaving said roller, and a brush mounted over said reservoir in position to apply sealing pressure to the paper as the latter is passed in front thereof from the first-mentioned brush, the last mentioned brush having the paper contacting surface thereof provided with a convex curvature transverse to its axis.
In testimony whereof we affix our signatures in presence of two witnesses.
