VETERINARY FLOAT.
Y APPLICATION FILED APR.3| 1920. 1,347,933. Patented July 27, 1920.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
HAROLD M. BRIX, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS, ASSIGNOR TO SHARP & SMITH, OF CHICAGO,
` ILLINOIS, A CORPORATION OF ILLINOIS.
VETERINARY FLOAT.
Specification of Letters Patent. Patented July 27, 1920.
Application led April 3, 1920. Serial No.`371,158.
T 0 all 'whom it may concern.'
Be it known that I, HAROLD M. Baix, Va citizen of the United States, residing at Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Veterinary Floats, of which the following is a specification.
The present invention relates to a veterinary float, and will be fully understood from the following description illustrated by 'the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 is a plan view of the float, partially broken away, with the float section upwardly 5 Fig. 2 is a back view of the head or holder of thetloat;
Fig. 3 is a broken longitudinal section through the head of the iioat;
Fie'. 4 is a transverse section on the' line 4 of :Fig 3, viewed in the direction of the arrow; and
Fig. 5 is a transverse section on the line 5 of Fig. 3, viewed in the direction of the arrow.
Referring more particularly to the drawings the numeral 10 indicates the rasp section of the float, which is retained in position in a channel-like support or holder cornprising a back 12 and side members 13, 13, each of which is provided with an overhanging edge or lip 14, 14, which engages the upper surface of the rasp section 10, at or near its edge. Gn the back of the holder 11, at one end is formed an enlargement which is provided with a socket 16 passing longitudinally into the enlarged portion 15, and a second socket 17 passing perpendicularly from the upper surface of the back 12 of holder 11 into the enlargement 15. A threaded bore 18 passes from the socket 16 to the socket 17.
.The handle bar or rod 19 is provided at one end with a cylindrical portion 2O which fits into the socket 16, and as an extension of this a threaded portion 2l adapted to mate with the threads of the bore or opening 18. The end of the threaded prolongation 21 of the handle 19 is of conical formation, as indicated by numeral 22, and enters a conical opening of larger diameter, but preferably of the same angle, formed in the pin 23, which is slidably tted into the bore 17. To prevent this pin from falling out of the holder it is provided on one side with a groove 24 which does not extend. to the lower end of the pin, and a fastening pin 25 is forced through a suitable bore drilled i in the enlarged portion 15 on the back of the iioat until it enters the said groove 24.
In operation of the device a rasp section 10 is placed in the channel-like holder of the float, the handle being then partially unscrewed, the pin 23 thereby being permitted to move downwardly into the socket 17. The rasp being in position, the handle 19 is screwed tight, its conical end 22 thereby entering the conical opening in the pin 23 and by its forward movement wedging the latter out of the socket 17 and into firm engagement with the lower side of the rasp. The edgesV of the upper surface of the rasp are thereby forced into engagement with the overhanging ledge 14 of the holder, and the rasp is thereby securely held in position.
to engage its upper surface, a handle for said holder', a pin loosely mounted in the back portion of the handle, and means operable on rotation of the handle in one direction to force said pin against the lower section of the rasp section and thereby wedge the latter against the overhanging .members of the holder and when rotated in the opposite vdirection to permit the pin to fall out of contact with said rasp section.
2. In a veterinary float, a rasp section, a holder therefor provided with a channel for receiving the rasp section, a pin slidably secured in the holder and adapted to engage and secure the rasp section in the holder when moved outwardly, said pin being provided with a conicalcavity on one side, and a groove on its opposite side extending a portion of its length, a second pin having end engagement with said groove to retain said iirst-named pin in the holder, a handle for said holder and screw-threaded thereinto, said handle being provided with a conical` end adapted to enter the conical cavity in the pin, whereby on rotation of the handle in one direction it wedges the pin K outwardly and on rotation in the other di-l HAROLD M. BRIX.
