Description

A. H. DE VOE.
SPOOL HOLDER. 7 APPLICATION FILED OCT. 30, I9I8- Patented July 27, 1920.
WITNESSES:
TTORNEY UNITED STATES ALBERT H. DE voE, 0E WEsrEIELn, NE JERSEY, ASSIIGNOR- TO THE MANUFACTURING COMPANY, A CORPORATION OF NEW JERSEY.
PATIENT OFFI E.
SINGER SPQOL-I-IOLDER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented July 27, 1920.
Original application filed February 8, 1917, Serial No. 147,296. Divided and this application filed October T 0 all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ALBERT H. DE Von, a citizen of the United States, residing at Westlield, in the county of Union and State of New Jersey, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Spool-Holders, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawings.
This invention relates to a spool-holder, more particularly to one for use with a power-stand such as that shown in 1ny copending application Serial No. 147,226, filed February 8, 1917, of which this application is a division.
The objects of the invention are to provide a spool-holder which is simple, easily adjusted and readily attached or removed.
In its preferred form the invention comprises a spider-frame having a socket in which is adjustably secured a standard hav ing at its lower end a cross-member carrying a desired number of spool-pins. At the upper end of the standard is a second crossmember sustaining guide-loops corresponding in number to the spool-pins. In the particular embodiment shown the holder 1s adapted for support on the brace-rods connecting adjacent sections of a power-stand, but it is obvious that it may be supported in many other ways.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a front elevation of a power-stand with the spool-holders attached, parts being broken away. Fig. 2 is a side elevation with parts in section. Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the supporting spider of a spoolholder, showing the manner in which it is carried by the brace-rods of the power-stand.
Referring to the drawings, 1 indicates adjacent columns of a power-stand, the lower ends of the columns being secured to a floor in any desired manner. At the head of each column is carried a housing 2 in which are mounted opposed power-transmitters, each of which is belt connected to a sewing machine 3 mounted on a shelf 4 carried by the column. A single shaft 5 actuates all of the power-transmitters and is driven by a pulley 6 from which a belt 7 Serial N 0. 260,256.
leads to a main drive-shaft (not shown). The housings 2 of adjacent columns are connected by an inverted T-beam 2 which serves as a support for the shaft-hanger 8. A pair of brace or tie-rods 9 also extend between adjacent housings. These tie-rods 9 in addition form a convenient supporting means for the plural-armed spider-frames 10 of the spool-holders. Each arm of a frame has a hooked free end 11 adapted to engage one of the rods 9, and at one side of the center of the frame there is formed a socket 12 in which is secured by set-screws 13 a vertical standard 14:. At the lower end of the standard 14 is secured by the setscrew 15 the socket 16 of a cross-member 17, and on the cross-member are mounted a desired number of spool-holders 18 having vertical spool-pins 19 adapted to receive thread-spools. At its upper end the standard is provided with a second cross-member 20 carrying guide-loops 21 corresponding in number to the spool-holders.
In use the spider-frame is disposed with the hooked ends 11 of its arms in engagement with the tie-rods 9, and the thread is led from the spools on the pins 19 to the respective guide-loops 21 and thence to the sewing machine.
Having thus set forth the nature of the invention, what I claim herein is 1. In combination, a spider-frame, means carried thereby for supporting said frame, a socket carried by said frame, a standard adjustable in said socket, and spool-holding and thread-guiding means carried by said standard.
2. In combination, a frame comprising a socket and diverging arms, means for supporting said frame carried by said arms, a standard adjustable in said socket, and spool-holding and thread-guiding means carried by said standard.
3. In combination, a frame comprising a socket and hooked arms extending therefrom, a standard adjustable in said socket, a spool-holder secured .to one end of said standard, and a thread-guide secured to its other end. i
4. In combination, a plurality of hooks adapted to engage a support, arms dependframe may be supported, a standard. edlng from szud hooks, and a spool-holder and justably secured 1n szud socket, and sp001- thread-guide. adjustably secured to said holding and thread-guiding means. earried 10 arms. i by said-standard. V
5. In comblnatlon, a sp1der-ira1ne com- 111 testnnony whereof, I have slgned my prising a socket provided with hooked arms name to this specification.
extending therefrom whereby the spider- ALBERT H. DE Vole.
