To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, J OHN W. KAUFMANN, acitizen of'the United States, and a resident ofBaltimore, in the State of Maryland, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Reproducers 'for Talking- Machines, of which the followingis a specification.
Myfinvention is an improvement in re producers for talking machines, and has for its object to provide a new and improved connection between the needle and the diaphragm controlling lever, which will eliminatethe usual rigidity between these parts, substituting a resilient connection.

In-the embodiment of the invention shown in Figs. 1 to 4, the case 1 of the reproducer box has the usual central nipple, 2
for receiving the inlet end 3 ofthe amplifier', and it will be noticed, referring toFig. 3, that the case has an inwardly extending annular rib tjagainst which the end of the amplifier abuts. V
The amplifier is held in the case by means of screws 5 having tapering points which engage tapering openings 6 in the amplifier, and it will be evident that when the screws are turned home the amplifier is drawn toward the rib to cause the same to fit tightly against the rib.

- These pins, as shown," are connected with the case and have rounded outer ends whlch engage within tapering openings 12 in hold provided in the present instance. Thus the bars13 are pivoted on the pins 11, and it will be noticed that the said pins havetheir axes approximately in the plane of the diaphragm. The bars are freely movable onthepins and are pressed toward the pins by the resiliencyof the springs 14:. With one of these bars is connected the lever 15 which is connected'to the diaphragm at its center in the usual-manner. The other bar 13 carries a needle holder 17 of usual construction,
. carrying the needle 18 held in place in. the holder by the set screw 19.
The needle engages the record in the usual manner, and it vwill be evident that when'the needle is'moved by the waves of the record grooves this movement willpbe transmitted through the springs 14 to the other bar 13' and by way of the lever 15 to the diaphragm, vibrating the same in accordance with the contour of the grooves.
The bars 14: are preferably as shown in Fig. 2, each bar consisting of an inner and an -outer section, the sections having registering grooves for receiving the springs, and the sections may be secured together in anysuitable or desired manner. With this arrangementithe springs may be quickly and easily removed or re'placed,;when de sired, for any purpose, and eachspring is, firmly clasped by the bars.
In the embodiment of the invention shown in Fig. 6 the springs 20 are held in place on the bar 21 by a clamping plate 22 which is secured to the bars by screws 23 or the like. No grooves are provided in this arrangement, the springs being clasped directly between the clamping plate and the bar.
In the embodiment ofthe invention shown in Fig. 7 the springs 24 are received in openings through the bar 25, which is solid, and each spring is engaged by a set screw 26 threaded through the bar.
