i'b (zZZ whom t may concern:
Be it known. that l; WALTE G. iieeuns,
a citizen or the llhited States, residing at 5091', in the county of Jasper, State of Missouri, have invented certain new and useful lmgroveiuents in Timers, of which the following is specification.
- My invention rotates to circuit breakers and particularly to that type known as timers employed in the ignition systems of internal combustion engines.
It is the purpose of my present invention to provide an improved brush structure for timers which Will greatly simplify the or rangement and which will materially reduce the cost of manufacturing and in addition my improved brush structure is so arranged as will permitits incorporation in the standard Ford timer with very little change and at a minimum of expense.
it is also the purpose oi my present i1ivention to produce a timer brush structure which will be efficient in operation and which will embody a minimum number of parts so connected together as to be proof against disarran' ement no matter how hard the usage or how serious the neglect to which it is subjected.
l Vith the above and other purposes in view my invention consists in the details of construction and in the arrangement and combination of parts to be hereinafter more fully described and particularly pointed out in the claims.
In describing my invention in detail reference will be bad to the accompeuying drawing wherein like characters of refereucc denote corresponding parts in the several views, and in Which- Figure l is a bottom plan view of a timer embodying my invention with the base of the timer casing removed and the timer shaft shown. in section; and
Fig. 2, a perspective view of my improved brush structure.
Reilierring to the drawings A indicates a.
' timer case which carries therein the usual contact supporting ring 16 formed of any desirable insulating materlal and having embedded therern the usual contacts 11 all of the Well known construction and. common to the timers employed in-the igiutlon system the engines of Ford cars.
, My improved crush StfllGbHlfGlS shown as comprising a sleeve 12 which is engaged on v toe upger end of the tuner shaft 13, the latter being driven from the cam shaft 0% brush element is preferably constructed of spring steel and is carried around the sleeve 12 and exteudedbetween the arms 15 and 16 and between the pin 17 and the sleeve 12.
The brush element 'isth'en returned upon.
itself toform a freecoutact terminal '22 as clearly shown in Fig. 2-. The lower end of the sleeve 12 isv provided with notches or re cesses .23 which are adapted to selectively receive the pin 14 and thereby non-rotatebiy secure the sleeve to the shaft 13; By providing this adjustment of the sleeve 1&2 reletively to the shaft 13 I am enabled to ad- Vance and retard the time of the spark as Will be obvious.
I claim:
1. A brush structure for timers comprising a body portion adopted to be non-rotatubly secured to a timer shaft, an abutment carriedby the body portion, and e brush element secured to the. body portion and re turned uponitself around said abutment to form a contact engaging terminal.
2. A brush structure for timers comprising a body portion adapted to be non-rotatably secured to a timer shaft, spaced lateral arms on the body portion, an abutment pin connecting the arms, and a brush element secured to the body portion and extending between the arms and around the abutment to form a contact engaging terminal. I
A. brush structure for timers comprising a body portion adapted to be non-rotatebly secured to a;timer shaft, an abutment carried by the body portion, anarm on saidbody portion, and abrush element engaged. on said arm and returned upon itself around said abutment to form a contact engaging terminal Fe testimony whereof I my signature the presence oi? two witnesses
