To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, JoHN T. GALBREATH, a citizen of the United States, residing at Gynthiana, in the county of Harrison and State of Kentucky, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Spark- Plug-Cleaning Devices, of'which the following is a specification.

The invention relates to a spark plug cleaning device, and has for its primary object to provide a device of this character wherein the threaded end of a spark plug can be engaged in the body of the device, which is adapted to contain gasolene or other cleaning medium so that the polnts of the electrodes can be readily cleaned of carbon or other sediments formed thereon, the points being acted upon by a brush confined within the body of the device which is manually controlled for the thorough cleaning of said points.

Another object of the invention is the provision of a device of this. character, wherein the construction thereof is novel in form so that the body of the same will receive the cleaning fluid, which can be readily held therein without the possibility of the spilling of the fluid therefrom when in the act of cleaning the electrodes at the points thereof of a spark plug, the body 7 when not attached to the spark plug being 'closed through the medium of a removable cap so that the contents of the cleaning medium can be retained therein.

A further object of the inventlon is the provision of a device of this character,

which is extremely simple in construction, handy for use, readily and easily attached to and removed from a spark plug, thoroughly reliable and eflicient in its purpose, and inexpensive to manufacture.

With these and other objects in view, the invention consists in the features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts, as will be hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings, and pointed out in the claims hereunto appended.

Referring to the drawing in detail, the spark plug cleaning device comprises a cylindrical body '5, preferably made from metal open at one end and closed at the opposite end, the open end of said body being formed with a thickened rim 6 having suitable internal threads for detachable connec tlon thereof with the threaded portion 7 of a spark plug 8 of the ordinary well known construction having the usual electrodes 9 and 10 respectively which project into the 5 when the said spark plug 8 is connected therewith, as is clearly shown in Fig. 1 of the drawing.

The internally threaded open end of the body 5 at the thickened rim 6 thereof when detached from the spark plug 8 is adapted to receive a screw head 12, and this or closure cap for 5 of the device.

The closed end of the body 5 has formed therewith a centraltubular guide column 13 which extends from the closed end of the body 5 interiorly of the latter for a considerable distance of the length thereof, the inner end of the column 13 being formed with a suitable packing seat for accommodating a packing 14, while the opposite outer end of said column opens through the closed end of the body 5, and in this column is adapted to be received the stem 15 of a brush stock 16, the latter being of disk form to snugly fit within the body 5 and carries a group of tufted bristles 17 constituting the brush proper for action upon the points of the electrodes 9 and 10 of the spark plug 8 when fitted in the device.

The stem 15 projects outwardly beyond the closed end of the body 5 and has suitably secured thereto a knurled knob or finger engaging head 18 so that the stem 15 can be readily rotated in the column 13 for the turning of the brush 1'? within the body 5 for action upon the points of the plug serves as a stopper the open end of the body plug 11, having a knurled and the gasolene or other fiuid will cause electrodes 9 and 10 of the spark plug to clean said electrodes for the removal-of carbon and other sediment therefrom.

The packing 14: seated within the inner end of the column 13 surrounds the stem 15'to avoid any leakage of the contents of the body 5 through the column 13, as will be clearly apparent.

The stock 16 of the brush has formed therein a plurality of holes 19 to permit the passage of the contents of the body atherothrough for the wetting of the brush 17 in the use of the device. The body 5 of the deviceis preferably filled with gasolene, althoughany cleaning fluid can be introduced into the body 5 to assure removal of carbon or other foreign matter from the electrodes 9 and 10 of the spark plug 8 when connected with the body'5 of the device, as shown in Fig. 1 of the drawing.

By the turning of the knob 18 on the stem 15 of the brush 17, the same can be readily rotated within the body 5- for a sweeping action of said brush over the points of the electrodes of the spark plug the easy removal of carbon or other foreign matter as will be obvious. It will be noted that'the body 5 can be filled with gasolene and thereafter the plug 11 engaged-in the internally threaded open end of said body for closing the same, so that the said dev1ce can be carried 1n the pocket of the user or within a compartment in an automobile for ready and handy. use.

.From the foregoing, it is thought that the construction and manner of use of the device will be clearly understood and therefore a more extended explanation has been omitted. However, the applicant reserves the right to make changes, variations, and

- modifications in the invention as fall within the scope of the appended claims without departing from the spirit of the invention or sacrificing any of its advantages.

The length of the stem 15 will permit longitudinal shifting" thereof Within the column 13, so as to bring the brush 1'? into position for the cleaning of the shell of the spark plug to remove carbon deposits therefrom. Therefore it will be seen that the electrodes and the end of the body of the spark plug can be thoroughly cleaned in the use of the device.
