To all whom it may concern Be it known that l, ANTON Zunnrn, a citizen of Poland, residing at Jersey City, in the county of Hudson and State of New Jersey, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Life-Buoys, of which the following is a specification.
The primary object of the present invention resides in the provision of a life buoy designed to be carried in collapsed form upon the deck of a ship and to be easily and quickly unfolded to its set up operative position for launching in the water and being designed for carrying passengers.
A further object of the invention consists in the provision of a life buoy preferably of spherical formation with manually operable oars proj cting thnough the side walls thereof at points below the transverse a ia,

Referring more in detail to the accompanying drawings there illustrated a lite buoy shown in hig 1 as being floated upon a body of water the same comprising a body portion 1 of spherical formation having a door controlled entrance 2 and windows 3 formed therein above the horizontal axis while the upper end of the buoy 1 is provided with a trap door 4 provided for th purpose of positioning the signal lamp upon the suspendipg hook (3 while propelsectioual view of the Letters Patent.
The body portion of the buoyl includes a skeleton framework formed of crossed vertical hoops 8 and 9, the hoop being in1movably mounted upon the lower end of the vertically extending post 10 while end is supported on the shaft 11 projecting; upwardly of the post 10 and outwardly of the hoop 8 and carrying upon the upper end thereof the suspending hook 6 for the signal lamp 5. The hoop 9 is supported upon the post 10 and shaft 11 but is adapted to be moved thereon when the buoy is collapsed. A horizontal hoop 12 is arranged inwardly of the hoops 8 and 9 and is journaled diametrically 'of-the outer hoop 8 upon the pins 13 extending therethrongh, and the hoop 8 and adapted to be moved on said pins when the fram work is collapsed to have the diametrically opposite free sides thereoh,

i hen the seclid and 3, the having pivotal connections 23 with the post 10 and carrying hooks at the free ends thereof for engagement in eyes 24 formed upon the upper face of the platform sections 18, a link 22 being provided diametrically of the post 10 to hold the platform sections 18 in lowered position. As illustrated in Figs. 2 and 3, stirrups 25 are arranged in circular series upon the platform sections 18 so that a person may steady himself while riding within the buoy and be able to secure a handhold upon the post 10.
When the device is floating in the water and it is-desired to propel the same, the oars generally designated 7 include paddle sections 26 having a flexible tubular connection 27 with the interior of the buoy and handles 28 suspended interiorly of the buoy upon chains 29 have key-shaped ends adapted for insertion through the tubular connections 25 into sockets26 of the paddles 26 whereby manipulation of the paddles causes the forward propulsion of the buoy.
The signal lamp is suspended upon the hook 6. The framework above adapted to be covered by any type of waterproof material such as a rubberized reticulated fabric 31 which will completely inclose the framework and render the interior thereof waterproof.
When the buoy is carried upon the deck of a vessel the same is generally in collapsed form which is accomplished by removing the pins 16 from the registering openings in the curved brace arms cal hoops 8 and 9 so that the arms 14 may be moved upon their pivot pins 13 and 1a to lie adjacent the hoop 12, thus permitting a vertical swinging of the hoop 12 upon the pins 13- and. a horizontal swinging of the hoop 9 upon the post and shaft and 11, respectively, while the releasing of the links 22 permit the platform sections 18 to be swung upon the hinges 19 to lie adjacent the post 10. The device is easily and quickly set up to its operative position and may be suspended in the water by a hoop or cable passing through the lamp suspending hook t3 and removed when the buoy reaches the water. The passengers enter the buoy through the door opening 2 and stand upon the platform 18 with the feet supported in the stir-raps while access to the hook (3 is obtained by ascending the ladder and passing through the trap door *1, the propulsion ofthe buoy being accomplished by the operation of the oar paddles 26. 8

A life buoy comprising a framework formed of a plurality of hoops, curved brace arms extending between the hoops to maintain the same in set up position, a vertical post within the hoops, a platform hinged at opposite sides of said post, a waterproof covering for said hoops, flexible tubes carried by said waterproof covering, oar blades fined to said tubes, and handles for the oar blades carried within said framework and adapted to be extended into said tubes for engagement with the oar blades. v
