To all whom t may concern Be it known that LWVILLIAM A. STEE- niNs, a citizen of the United States, residing at Seattle, in the county of Kingand State .of lVashington, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Razors, of

The handle of my improved razor is of conventional form consisting of a pair of plates 1 and 2 riveted together at one end as indicated at 3 and having the opposite ends thereof connected by a pivot pin 4. Connected with this pivot pin 4 is the reduced end 5 of a blade carrier bar 6, the latter being cut away on one side as indicated at 7 from a point designated 8 to the extreme outer end thereof. VA clamping plate 9 is arranged to coperate with the reduced side 7 of the carrier bar, and has its outer end pivoted to the outer end of said carrier bar through the medium of a Specication of Letters Patent.

This clamping plate conforms in general shape and dimensions to that portion of the carrier bar which it opposesv andv is equipped at its inner end with a set screw 11 extending therethrough as shown and engageable in a socket 12 opening into the inner face of the carrier bar adjacent the point 8. At the point 8, a diagonally extending shoulder is formed upon the inner' face of the carrier bar and this shoulder cooperates with the correspondingly shaped end of the clamping plate to limit swinging movement of said plate in one direction and thus serves to insure the proper positioning of the set screw 11 with relation to the socket 12 when the clamping plate is swung to the position indicated in Figs. 2 and 3. Adjacent this shoulder 8', the carrier bar 6 is provided with a-stud 13 projecting beyond the inner or reduced face 7 thereof. yThis stud may be made separable from the carrier bar as shown in Fig. 3 or may be made integral therewith if desired.
The cutting blade indicated at 14 is insertible between the clamping plate 9 and the carrier bar 6 as indicated in Fig. 1. The forward end of this cutting blade is provided with a slot 15 to accommodate the pivot pin 10 connecting said clamping plate Adjacent the rear end transverse opening 16 to receive the stud 13 and thus it will be seen from this construction that the blade will be positively held against possibility of swinging movement when secured between the clamping plate 9 and the carrier. The clamping pressure of the late 9 and carrier 6 upon opposite sides of the plate 14 may be regulated by rotation of vthe screw when the latter is engaged in the socket 12.
From the foregoing description and accompanying drawings it will be evident that when it is desired to use this improved form of razor,the clamping plate 9 is swung to the position shown in Fig. 1. The blade 14 is then arranged in position with the slot 15 thereof receiving the pivot pin 10 and the opening 16 thereof accommodating the stud 13.V The plate 9 is then swung to the position shown in Fig. 2 andthe set screw 11 is rotatedv into engagement with the socket 12 to prevent accidental displacement of the plate; (living to this construction, it will be seen that if the blade is provided Y Y 1,347,234- H used cutting edge for use. The handle is similar to the handle of an ordinary straight razor and the blade carrying structure is designed to be received between the plates l and 2 of the handle in the well known manner. The particular structure of the blade holder and carrier, therefore, is especially adapted for the straight razor handle so that the edges of the blade are protected while the device is not in use.
`The foregoing description and accompanying drawings have reference to what might be considered to be the preferred or approved form of my invention. I desire it to be understood that I may ina-ke such changes in the construction, 'combination and arrangement of' parts, materials, dim'ensions, .et cetera, as may prove expedient and fall within the scope 'of the appended claims.
