ANTISETTING DEVICE.
Specification of Letters Patent.

To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, ANDREW M. GRmrnY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Meeker, in the county of Lincoln and State of Oklahoma, have invented new and useful Improvements in Antisetting Devices, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to a device for preventing hens from setting and also has as an object the provision of such a device which will guard against hens flying over poultry yard fences by preventing them from crouching to assume a springing position.
Another object of the invention is the provision of a device adapted to encircle the leg of the hen which will accomplish these objects and which is, at the same time, simple in construction and inexpensive to manufacture.
The above, and other objects of my invention which will become obvious from a read ing of the specification and following claims, are attained by the provision of a device which is formed from a single piece of wire bent to form two loops adapted to encircle the leg above and below the joint, respectively, and held in rigid spaced relation by means of a connecting portion. The device is also provided With an integral and downwardly extending portion bent at an angle to the lower loop and formed with an eye to receive a fastening member which encircles the leg adjacent the foot.

Fig. 3 is an eievational view of the fastening member adapted to be secured to the device as shown in Figs. 1 and 2.
In the accompanying drawings wherein similar numerals represent corresponding )arts throughout, the device is formed from a single length of wire bent upon itself to form a loop 11 and then bent at approximately a right angle to the loop to form a connecting portion 12 extending downwardly to a second loop 13, bent at approximately a right angle to the connecting portion 12. The device is formed with a downwardly extending arm 14 bent at approximately a right angle to the lower loop 13 and formed with an eye 15 as clearly inclicated in Fig. 2. For the purpose of strengthening the device and fixedly holdng the loops in rigid relation the connecting portion 12 and the arm 14 are twisted, which, obviously, materially strengthens the dev1ce.
F or the purpose of holding the device in operatlve posltlon there is provided a removable fastening member in the form of a collar 16 which may be constructed of sheet metal, and is provided at one end with ears 17, 17, and its other end is tapered, as at 18. When in use this fastener is passed through the eye 15 formed in the lower part of the stiffening device and is fastened about the leg by passing the tapered end between the ears 17 17, which ears are then bent over to mclose the end of the fastening strip. The end of the fastening strip is then bent back upon the ears to hold them in their over-bent position.
Referring to Fig. 1, it will be observed thatthe upper loop 11 encircles the leg im medlately above the joint, and the lower loop encircles the same immediately below the 301111 the two loops having their connectmg portion 12 positioned at the forward part of the leg and the downwardly extending arm belng positioned at the rear of the Although I have described my device as constructed of wire, it will be clear that other material could readily be employed and would fulfil. the same purpose, but I have found wire to be particularly desirable as the same is inexpensive and may be readily conformed to the structure disclosed. It should also be understood that such modifications may be made in the general structure of my device as come within the scope of the following claims.
What I claim is:
1. A device of the character described comprising a member formed from a single piece of wire having a loop adapted to cn circle the leg immediately above the joint, a second loop spaced from said first men tioned loop and adapted to encircle the leg immediately below the joint, a connecting portion separating said loops and holding them in rigid and fixed relation, an arm bent at an angle to the second-mentioned loop and adapted to extend downwardly along the leg, and a fastening member on said arm to encircle the leg and hold the device in operative position.
