Be it known that I ROBERT J. GAnsoN, a citizen of the United tates, residing at Has-` tings, in the county of Jefferson and State of Oklahoma, have invented a new and useful Pan-Lifter, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to kitchen articles and more particularly to devices known in the art as plate lifters.
The primary object of the invention is to provide a device of this character having opposed lifting sections, the sections being so constructed that the same may be adj usted to permit its use in connection with pans, or plates, of various diameters.
A still further object of the invention is to provide means for operating the lifting sections, the means being located adjacent the thumb of the operator, to permit the lifting sections to be manipulated when supported by one hand of the operator.
lllVith the foregoing and other objects in view which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment oi' the invention herein disclosed, may be made within the scope of what is claimed, without de arting from the spirit ofthe invention.

Referring to the drawing in detail, the reference character 5 designates body of the lifter, which includes a relatively long rod, apertured at one end, as at 6, the opposite end thereof being provided with the handle 7 A slot 8 is formed in the body of the lifter, and receives the extension 9, formed on the operatingl lever 10, the pivot pin 11,
being shown as passing through thel side walls of the slot 8, and supporting the operating lever in proper relation with the body of the device, the pivot pin 11 forming the support to permit free movement Vof the operating lever with relation to the body 5.
A tubular member 12, is supported on the body 5, one end of said tubular member 12, being disposed adjacent the outer orfree end of the body 5, and provides a shoulder fork purposes to be hereinafter more fully described.
The opposite end 13, of said tubular member 12, is disposed in spaced relation with the slot 8. The clamping sections are sup-l ported on the body 5, to have a free pivotal movement with relation thereto, the pivotal movement being accomplished by manipulation of the operating lever 10, which has connection with Vthe clamping sections through the medium of the arm 14C, andthe links 15 and 16, the upper end of the links being curved as at 17, and passing through suitable openings inthe arm 14C, the opposite ends thereof being hooked as at 18, the hooked portions being disposed within the openings 19 of the arms of the clamping section. i .i v
Each of these clamping sections includes a pair of opposed relatively wide members 20, having a plurality of apertures 20 disposed therein, in spaced relation with each other, the ends of the respective members 20, extending inwardly as at 21 and formed with an aperture 22. l
The plate engaging portion of each clamping section, includes a length of wire bent intermediate its length to provide a curved portion 23, which extends inwardly toward the body 5, as at 24:, to provide a shoulder, equal to the width of the ordinary baking pan, or plate, now in use, the arms of said plate engaging portions passing through the openings 22, the eXtreme ends thereof eX- tending at right angles to the arms, as at 25, and as shown, are positioned within predetermined openings formed in the relatively wide members 20, the inner extremities of'each of the relatively wide members 20, is apertured as at 26, to permit the same to be supported on'l the body 5 of the lifter, the shoulders formed adjacent the ends of the tubular member 12, preventing longitudinal movement of themembers 20, with relation to the bodyv, in one direction, the
pins 27, which pass through the body 5, engage the membersV 20, and prevent movement of the membersV with relation to th body, in the opposite direction.
From the foregoing it will be seen that when it is desired to lift a plate from a stove or oven, it is only necessary to press the lever l0, tocause the clamping sections to move to the limit of their outward move- VEl() ment, whereupon the same are dropped over the edges of the pan.
VIt follows that the plate lifter may now Vbe raised, with Vthe result that the shoulders 24 tightly grip the usual flange of a pan, and permitthe same to be moved to any predetermined position.
To release the lifter from the pan, the
lever l0 is again operated toeXtend theV clamping sections to the limit of their outward movement, which releases theshoulders 24 and the lifter is now free from the pan, which has been moved thereby.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed is:
l. In a pan lifter, an elongated body portion, opposed clamping sections pivotally Vthe deviceto be employed with various sized plates, a lever mechanism having connection with the clamping sections, whereby movement of the lever mechanism causes a relative movement of the clamping sections,

In a pan lifter, a body portion, clamp-` ing sections pivotally supported on the body portion, each of said clamping sections including apertured members, each of said apertured members having an inturned apertured end, a plate engaging member forming a part of each clamping section, each plate engaging member including spaced arms disposed within the openings of the inturnedY ends of the apertured members, and means carried by each of the plate engaging members for cooperating with the apertures of the apertured members for permitting adjustment of the plate engaging 'members with relation to theV apertured members, land means for voperating the clamping sections.
5. In a pan lifter, a body, a tubular member disposedon the body, clamping sections having connection with the body adjacent the ends of the tubular member, said clamp-` ing sections including plate engaging 'portions, means for permitting adjustment of Y the plate engaging sections laterally, with relation to the body, and means for operating the clamping sections.
