VIOLIN ATTACHMENT.

Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Jul 6, 1920.
Application'flled July 12, 1919. Serial No. 310362.
This invention consists in connecting a pair of bells to the rear wall of the violin with the object of increasing the power and improving the tone of the instrument.
Another object of the invention is to render unnecessary the formation of the S- shaped openings in the front of the violin.
The invention also consists in certain other features of construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, to be hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and specifically'pointed out in the appended claim.
In describing my invention in detail, ref
erence will be had to the accompanying drawings wherein like characters denote like or corresponding parts throughout the several views, and inwhich:- Figure 1 is a front view of a violin constructed in accordance with my invention;
Fig. 2 is a rear view; r Fig. 3 is a side view partly'in section. Fig. l is a section through the sound post. In these views 1 indicates the violin which is constructed as usual with the exception that the S-shaped holes or openings usually provided in the front of i the violin are omitted, and this front is made solid, as
outer face of the back. clamped between the two bells with the shown. An opening is formed in the center of the back and through this opening projects one end of a screw threaded post 2. This post is of tubular construction,. as shown. A pair of bells 3 and 4 have screw threaded openings to receive the ends of the post so that the said bells are held to the post. I locate one of these bells within the violin with its convex surface abutting the inner face of the back of the violin and the other bell has its convex face abutting the Thus the back is post projecting through the back and bells.
I also find it desirable to form perforations 5 in the sound post 6, as shown.
It is thought from the foregoing description that the advantages and novel features of my invention will be readily apparent.
I desire it to be understood that I may make changes in the construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, provided that such changes fall within the scope of the appended claim.
What I claim is A violin having a tubular post passing through its rear wall, and a pair of bells carried by said post, one bell being located within the violin and engaging the inner face of the back thereof and the other bell engaging the other face of the back for increasing the power and improving the tone of the instrument.
Intestimony whereof I affix my signature.
HUGH GAL'BRAITH.
