Description

J. B. WIGHTWIAN. Ehldren's Carriage's.
Ptented Jan. 7, 1873,.
JOHN B. WIGHTMAN, OF BROOKLYN, N. Y.
IMPROVEMENTVIN CHILDRENS CARRIAGES.
Specification formingpart of Letters Patent No. 1134.576. dated January 7, 1873.
' vention consists in constructing the carriage so that the seat and top thereof may be reversed in the manner hereinafter fully dcscribed.
l'n the accompanying drawing, Figure l represents a side elevation of my carriage, showing the seat raised; Fig. 2, a plan view of bottom of seat; and Fig. 3, a transverse section of same.
Similar letters of reference indicate like paris 2.1 the several gures.
A represents the body, to which are secured the Wheels a, c and the push-handle b in any desirable manner. B represents the seat, to
which is`attached the top O. To the under side of the seat Bis firmly secured, by a pivot, d, a plate, D, in such manner as will allow the seat B to revolve freely thereon. Secured to the plate 1) are four metallic parallel connections, E-E. These connections are so aflixed to the body A and seatB that they will allow the seat B to move to either the front or rear end of the body A.
My carriage being constructed substantially as above described, its operation is as follows: When it is desired to reverse the position of the seat so as to protect the occupant from the sun or rain, by interposing the rear of the top as a screen, the seat B is raised up to the extent ot' the parallel connections E E, and then revolved on the plate D, bringing the rear of the top G in the position required. The seat B may be then moved to either end of the body A, as desired. rl`he seat B is lept in position on the plate D and to thev body A by suitable catches e and f; and as any suitable mechanism may be applied to hold the body in place on the plate D and body A, I do not limit myself to any particular kind of mechanical appliances; but- Having thus described my invention, what I do claim, and desire to secure by LettersPatent, is-
The combination of a reversible top and seat With connections which permit them to be shifted on the body of the carriage, substantially as described, for the purpose specified.
