which the shoe is provided with the usual front opening connected with the upper of the shoe, the closing portions of the upper being. provided with the usual eyelets or other fasteners for the shoe-lacing, but in which the quartersof the shoe are also pro-1 videdw-with an .opening and overlapping members for closing said opening, means members for securing said membersv in closed relation about the back and ankle of the foot so that the shoe can be quickly removed from about the foot, without disturbing the front closed arrangement of the upper portions and of the lacing connected therewith. j V

The present invention,therefore, has for its principal object to provide in connection with a shoe of the character above stated, a

novel and improved shape of overlapping member to be used- Yin connection with the opening at the rear of the shoe.

Other objects of the present invention not at this time more particularly enumerated will be clearly understood from the following detailed description of the present invention. 1

With the various objects of-the present invention in view, the said inventionconsists, primarily, in the, novelcshoe hereinafter set forth; and, the saidinvention consists, furthermore, in fthe' novel arrangements and combinations of the various devices and parts, as well as in the details of the construction ofsaid parts, all of which will be more fully described in the follow- Specification of Letters Patent.

The said invention is clearly illustrated the overlapping members in their close relation; and Fig. 3 is a similar view of the shoe, but the overlapping members thereof being represented in their separated or opened relation. 7

Similar characters of reference are em ployed in all of the said above described views, to indicate corresponding parts.

Referring now to the several figures ofv the drawings, the reference-character 1 indicates a shoe of anydesired form, style and construction, the same being provided with the usual upper-members 2 having along their front edges. an arrangement of eyelets,as '3, or other suitable lace-fasteners, for the reception of the lace 1 for closing the front open portion of the shoe over the usual tongue 5. If desired, and-as shown in F 1g. 1 of the drawings, in additionto this usual arrangement of eyelets 3, auxiliary eyelets or perforations, as 6, may be disposed along the upper marginal edgeportions 7 of the said upper-members 2 for the reception and securing therein of the respective ends of the-lace 4 in any suitable manner, as will be evident, without the ne cessity of tying the lace-ends in the form of a bow-knot. The construction, use andad vantagesof the invention will be readily understood from the foregoing description of the present invention and from an inspection of the drawingswhich accompany the samefand any further'description of the invention is therefore deemed unnecessary. It'Wll-l also be evident, that the invention is applicable to all styles of shoes worn by men, as well as women, without detracting fromthe appearance of the shoe or rendering it uncomfortable to the wearer.
