COMBINED TABLE AND13OOK-STAND.
Specification of Letters Patent. I Patented J 29 1920 Application filed April 12, 1919. Serial No. 289,545.
To all whom it may concern: 7
Be it known that I, WESLEY W. KILLtoN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Terre Haute, in the county of Vigo and State of Indiana, have invented new and useful Improvements in Combined Tables and Book-Stands, of which the following is a specification.
This invention contemplates the provision of a combined table and book-stand, the object being to provide an attractive table of comparatively largesize, for example, a library table, in which the space beneath the top is arranged to mount a revolving book-stand, enabling a person to select or put away a book without arising from his seat.
It is also the purpose of the invention to provide a table of this character in which the book-stand is supported upon the tablestand, relieving the shelf below the table of the weight of the stand and books and elimi- Y nating the danger of such weight pulling the book-stand away from its fastenings, such as often occurs in a weight supported by the table legs.
A further object of the invention is the provision of a table of attractive design in which the weight and strain of the various component parts thereof and the book-stand which it supports are properly distributed, resulting in a useful and durable piece of furniture.
Other objects and advantages of the invention will appear as the following description is read in connection with the accompanying drawings.
In the drawings:
Figure 1 is a side elevation of a'table embodying the present invention,
Fig. 2 is a longitudinal sectional view,
' Fig. 3 is a transverse sectional view, and
Fig. 1 is a horizontal section taken on a line between the table top and its shelf.
Referring in detail to the drawings, like characters of reference designate corresponding parts throughout the several views.
The table illustratedin the accompanying drawings is designed for library use and includes a top 10, legs 11 and a stand 12.
The legs are spaced inwardly from the sides ,and ends of the top and are supported upon I thereof through the medium of supporting standards 14. The top of the table is provided with the usual depending apron 15 which surrounds the said top and is spaced inwardly from the edge thereof. There is also provided one or more drawers 16.
Revolubly mounted between the under side of the top and the stand 12 is a bookstand 17. This latter stand comprises upper and lower ends 18 and 19, respectively, each of which is provided with a centrally dlsposed outwardly extending pintle 20, which is mounted in bearings 21 and 22 carried respectively by the top and stand 12. These bearings may be of the antifriction type so as to permit of a free movement of the book-stand which is accommodated within a centrally disposed opening 23 provided in the shelf 13. The booklegs 11 and to the top 10 at each corner stand is divided horizontally by a shelf 24, 1
The said stand is also divided vertically by means of partitions 27 and the standards 25 have connected thereto separating strips 28, to permit of the insertion of the books from any side of the stand.
The invention is susceptible of various changes in its forms, proportions and minor details of construction and the right is herein reserved to make such changes as properly fall within the scope of the appended claims.
Having thus described the invention, what I claim is:
, 1. A combinedtable and book case embodying a stand, legs rising from the stand, a top mounted upon and extending an appreciable distance beyond the legs, a shelf supported upon the legs, said shelf being of substantially the same area as the table top,
standards connecting the ends of the shelf of substantially the same area as the table and top and a book case arranged between top, standards connecting the-ends of the 10 the top and shelf and the legs. shelf and top and a rotatable book case 10- 2. A combined table and bookcase emcated between the top and shelf and the bodying a stand, legs rising from the stand, legs. I
a top mounted upon and extending an ap-" 4- In testimony whereof I affix'my signature.
preciable distance beyond the legs, a shelf 7 U suppoited upon the legs, said shelf being I I WESLEY W. KILLION.
