Description

Horse-P0wers.
Patented Jan. 7, 1873.
A M. PHOTO'LQTHOGBAP/HG C 0. KY OSBORNES PROCESS) UNITED STATEs PATENT firrron.
LEVI H. BBATT, OF SOUTH BEND, INDIANA.
IMPROVEMENT IN HORSE-POWERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 134,5h0, dated January 7, 1873.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, LEVI H. BRATT, of South Bend, St. Joseph county, Indiana, have invented certain Improvements in Equalizing Draft for Horse-Powers, of ,which the followin g is a specification: v
My invention relates to that class of attachments to horse-powers which will compel all horses attached thereto to pull their equal proportion of the draft, and is applicable to all powers Where levers and horses are used.
Figure l is a plan view, and Fig. 2 a perspective of a part of my invention.
In the accompanying drawing, the letters A represent the four levers of a horsepower. The letters B represent pulleys on top of levers A, and placed near the outer end of said levers, as shown. The letters G represent pulleys like those lettered B, and are located immediately under said pulleys B, on the lower side of levers A. The letters D represent pulleys to which are attached hooks for attaching teams to levers A. E represents an endless chain, which, for illustration, passes from F to the left on top of lever A forward and around the inner pulley B; then backward around the outer pulley B; then forward and around pulley D then forward and around outer and inner pulleys O; and then again to next forward lever around the pulleys on said lever, same as described; and continuing on around all of said levers and their pulleys in the same manner as lever first described; then back to F, making an endless chain.
The horses, being attached to pulleys or hooks D, are made to pull on the same endless chain E. Therefore all slack or tension caused by-the slowness of any one of the team or teams will be immediately taken up by the others, thus causing an equalization of the draft.
What I claim as my invention, and wish to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The arrangement of the various pulleys B 0 1), with the endless chain E passing around them, in the manner and for the purpose specified.
