TICKET-HOLDER.
Application filed September14, 1917. Serial No. 191,407.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FRANGESS E. McDon- ALD, a citizen of the United States, residing at Chisuncook Village, in the county of Washington, State of Maine, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Ticket-Holders; and ,I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make'and use the same.
This invention is an improvement in receptacles and has ticket holder.
An object of the invention is to provide a holder of simple and inexpensive construction adapted to be attached to a seat '01- chair in a railway car and shaped to hold two tickets therein in such manner that the; same may be readily seen and withdrawn.
The inventive idea involved is capable of receiving a variety of mechanical expressions, one of which, for the purpose of illustrating the invention, is shown in the accompanying drawing, wherein 5 j Figure 1 is a fragmentary perspective view of the car seat showing the holder applied thereto.
Fig. 2 is a vertical longitudinal section of the holder. 1 i
Fig. 3 is a transverse section thereof.
The holder preferably comprises a back 5 made of any desired material and of rectangular formation, the same being provided at each end thereof with the reduced and offset extensions 6 having apertures 7 therein adapted to receive fasteners whereby the holder may be secured to the end of the seat 8 as shown in Fig. 1 with the intermediate portion of the back in spaced rela-' tion to the seat.
The front 9 of the holder is also of substantially rectangular formation and is provided upon its longitudinal edges with flanges 10 adapted to be bent over and secured to the longitudinal edges of the .back 5 in any suitable manner and interposed between said intermediate portion, of the back and said seat. The lower end of the front 9 is further provided with a transverse flange 11 adapted to bebent in under and secured to the adjacent end of the back particular reference to a 5 5 whereby to form a closure for the lower end of the holder and thus prevent the tickets from falling therethrough. The upper transverse end of the front 9 is provided with a forwardly bent lip 12 and.
adjacent said lip the front is further provided with a transverse slot 13 from the lower edge of. which extends a second lip the holder being open, it will be apparent that a ticket may be inserted into said end and a second ticket may be inserted into the slot 13, the lips'12- and 14 being adapted to facilitate the entrance of the tickets into the holder. 7 against the bottom 11 of the holder, the body of the rearmost ticket will rise ver-' tically whereas the body of the foremost will rise vertically for a distance'and be deflected forward through the slot 13, its upper end being bent forwardby contact with the lip 12 so that it is spaced a considerable dis- 1 tance from the upper end of'the rearmost ticket. Therefore theconductorin passing the seat may see the upper ends of both tickets, as the front one is covered by nothing and the rear one is not concealed by the 7 front one because the latter is deflected forward. If on inspection he finds that the two passengers in this seat are going through to points beyond the station he is then approaching, he leaves the tickets in the'holder and passes on, and the construction-of the device is such that he does not have to touch the tickets or the holder at all. i What is claimed is 'The'herein described ticket holder comlsimilar to the lip 12. The upper end of When the tickets come to rest Specification of Letters Patent. Patented June 22, 1920;
prising a backhaving means for fastening it to a seat, a front having flanges for conneeting its edges andv its lower end with the back to produce an open-topped pocket, the
front being transversely slotted below its upper edge, and forwardly bent lips at said upper'edge and at a'point below the slot, for the purpose set forth.
' In testimony whereof, I aflix my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
