MICHAEL JOHN BURKE, 0F SYRACUSE, NEW YORK.
TICKET-HOLDER.
I! '0 all whom it may concern:
lie it known that I, Minimal. Jenn Bum-(n, of Syracuse, in the county of Onondaga and State of New York, have invented a certain new and useful Ticket-Iloldm', of which the following is a specification.
My invention has for its object the production of a ticket holder which is particularly simple in construction and highly cilicient in use; and it consists in the combinations and constructions hereinafter set forth and claimed.
In describing this invention reference is had to the accompanying drawing in which like characters designate corresponding parts in all the views.
Figures 1 and 2 are, respectively, front and side elevations of my ticket holder. Fig. 2:3 is a face view of the blank from which the body of the ticket holder is formed.
This ticket holder comprises, generally, an elongated base member 1, and a tongue member 2 opposed to the base membe' and coacting therewith for holding a ticket. These members 1 and 2 are preferably composed of a single piece of spring sheet metal and are united at their lower ends, but it is obvious that said members may be hinged together and that a suitable spring may be connected thereto for yieldingly forcing the free end of the tongue member 2 toward the base member.
As here illustrated the ticket holder is provided with two places for holding tickets, one being located in front of the tongue member 2 and the other in rear thereof, that is between the tongue member and the base member. One of said members, here shown as the tongue member 2 is provided with ears 3 located near its tree end and projecting toward, and terminating short of, the other member. A roller a extending cross wise of the members 1 and 2 is mounted on a spindle supported by said ears 3 and co acts with the base member for holding a ticket. However, the ears 3 may be provided on the base member and extend toward the tongue member. The base member l is also formed with ears 5 located between the ears 3 and the connected ends of the base and tongue members and arranged on opposite sides of, and extending beyond, the tongue 2, the ears 5 carrying a spindle at their ends on which is mounted a roller 6 which extends crosswise of the members 1 Specification of Letters Patent.

and 2 and cooperates with the outer or front side of the tongue member 9 for holding a ticket. The base member is also formed with a depending lug 7 having a screw or nail hole 8, and with an upper extension t) having screw or nail holes 10 and adapted to receive suitable advertising matter.
Preferably, the body oi the ticket holder is formed from an elongated blank shown in Fig. 3, bent upon itscl'l' along the line 11 to form the base member I and the tongue member 2, the blank having ears or parts extending laterally from the portions which :torm the base and tongue members 1. and 2 when the blank is folded, these laterallycxtending ears or parts, when folded at a right angle to the contiguous portions of the blank, constituting the ears 3 and 5 for supporting the rollers t and (i. The blank is also out along the line 12 in the portion thereof which forms the tongue 2, the part outlined by said line constituting the lug 7.
My holders are particularly designed for use in coaches of railway trains for retaining the identifying tickets or checks given to the passengers, by the conductor, at the time the regular tickets or fares are collected, when the passengers destinations are one or more stations beyond the point where the succeeding collection of fares is to be made. One holder is designed to be placed adjacent each seat -in the coach, and as each seat is appropriated for two passengers, it is highly desirable that each holder shall accommodate two tickcts and so retain the same that each will be plainly visible to the conductor passing through the coach, and shall permit of the ready independent insertion and removal of the tickets.
What I claim is 1. In a ticket holder and in combination, a base member adapted to be mounted on a support, a fixed clamping member carried by the base member and provided with a clamping surface separated from the front face oi. the base member, and a tongue carried by the base member and extending between said clamping member and the base memher and having portions coacting with portions of said clamping member and the base member for holding two tickets, said por tions being arranged in different horizontal and vertical planes when the base member is in vertical position, substantially as and for the purpose described.
2. In a ticket holder and in combination,
