EPROVEWIENT IN WASHSTANDS.
Specifica-tion forming part- Of Letters Patent NO. 134,35*?, dated December 3l, 18772.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CHRISTOPHER MAGEE, of Pittsburg, in the county of Allegheny and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Wash-Stand; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawing and to the letters of reference marked thereon.
The nature of my invention consists in a soap-dish, provided with a drain-pipe, in combination with the wa-ste-pipe or pipes Of the wash-bowl of a wash-stand.
In the accompanying drawing which forms part of my specification, Figure lis a perspective view ofthe ordinary wash-stand provided with my improvement; and Fig. 2 is a vertical section of the same at line y of Fig. l.
In the drawing, Arepresents the wash-stand. B represents the wash-bowl provided with a pipe, C, connected to its bottom. D represents a pipe connected with the waste-apertures e in the upper edge of the bowl, and communi- Cates with the pipe D or with the pipe C, as may be desired.
The construction of my improvement will be readily understood from the foregoing description, and by reference to the accompanying drawing. I will, therefore, proceed to describe its operation.
The water on the soap and from the hands of the washer in placing .the soap in the dish f will ow from the dish through pipe g into the drain-pipe D and G, and thereby preventing the wasting of the soap by the solvent action of the water.
The ordinary means adopted for keeping the soap free from the water is by placing a false bottom in the soap-dish, said false bottom being provided with perforations. The chamber between the bottom of the soap-dish and the false bottom soon lls up with water and soapsuds.
By connecting the soap-dish with the waste or drain pipe of the wash bowl through the medium ofthe pipe g, as hereinbefore described, the water from the soap and dish is carried off from the dish, thereby keeping the soap comparatively dry and free from undue waste and that clammy feeling common to the handling and washing with the soap found in the soapdishes of hotels, sleeping-cars, Ste.
Having thus described my improvement, what I claim as of my invention is In a wash-stand, the soap-dish provided with a drain-pipe connected to the waste or drain pipe Of the water-bowl of a wash-stand, substantially as herein described, and for the purpose set forth.
