Specification of Letters Patent. Pabgnted Jun@ 15, ggql Application mammary 17, 1920. 'semi No. 352,222.
i lowing is a specification.
This invention has reference to ventilating valves of the hitand miss type 4in conjunction with which detiectors are employed for directing air currents through the valve in their passage through air trunks and other connections, the invention having special reference to that type of valve wherein the detiector is movedwhen the valve is operatedto the open or closed positions.
ln valves oi the above type a movable apertured member is disposed between similar stationary members or plates and the movable member is actuated to the open or closed position through the medium of means actuated by a key or its equivalent.
The object of this invention is to provide improvements in combined valves Vand deiiectors of the above character with the effect oi producing a combined device of simplied construction with an. improved means for eiiecting the operation of the parts, v Y
According to this invention, a ventilating valve fitted with a deflector has a. movable part which comprises `tw'ol similar plates or halves provided with ears or lugs with which engages a central lever or bar mounted on a spindle adapted to be operated by a key or equivalent means..
ln the preferred form embodiment of this invention the detlector. is actuated about a pivot pin or hinge by means ot a link connection between the detlectoi and an arm on the said key spindle.
The movable members of the valve are so disposed between the apertured plates that the ear pieces or lugs are adjacent each other, and are engaged by the ends of the said bar, the oscillation oit' which serves to move the two members nearer to or farther from each other, and in so doing, open or close they valve.
A combined valve and deflector constructed according to this invention is illustratedy in the accompanying drawings, wherein* Figure l is a plan view of the valve taken from the opposite side thereof to that on which the detlector is mounted, and with a part of the outer plate broken away. Y
y rig'. 2 is a section taken on the line 2-2 of Fig. l.
4lteterringto the drawings, a designates the movable plates or members of the valve, each' of which are ot similar shape and provided with apertures Z). The inner ends oit these plates are termed with lugs or ears c, recesses (Z and cut back shouldered portions'e. rlhe plates are so disposed relatively to each other that the cut back portion oit one plate is opposite the lug or ear of the other plate, and thus allows greater freedom of movement relatively to each other than if such cut back part was absent.'k The recesses Z in the plates are oppositely disposed and receive the ends of a bar or plate f attached to the spindle g. 'lhe bai or plate j serves as a double lever to the spindle and operates the plates a.
rlhe plates a are mounted between known forms of stationary apertured plates it, within a ring plate la, the latter serving as a spacing means between the plates z, for
the free working of the plates a.
The spindle g is inclosed within a key box Z attached to the plate j, and is provided with a squared or equivalent part 'm on which the bai' or plate f is mounted as well as the arm a whichis connected by a link o to a lug p on the deflector plate g. The defiecting plate g is pivotally mounted on the pin 11 supported in the brackets s attached to the plate L.
lt will be obvious from the construction described above with reference to the drawings, that a quick acting and deti'nite operating means is provided for both the valve and the deiiector plates, both being actuated by levers attached to the spindle g. The bar or plate f serves as a central lever bebetween the two halves constituting the movable valve plate` such bar being oi2 a similar thickness to such halves.
l declare that what I claim is l. A Aventilating valve of the hit and miss type having a deiiector pivoted thereto, a divided movable plate within the said valve, consisting of two similar plane parts having slots adapted to be moved into register with similar openings in the lixed portion oi the valve, a pivoted member Vdisposed centrally of the said valve and connected. on one side of its axis with the adjacent extremity of one oi said plane parts and on the opposite side of the axis with the other of said plane parts, and having an additional arm substantially integral therewith connected to the said deiector nso that on rotation of said pivoted memberv a separating or meeting movement of said similar parts is eifeoted With a simultaneous move- -ment of the deflector.
2. A Ventilating Valve of the hit and miss type having a deflector pivoted thereto, a divided movable plate Within the said valve, said plate consisting of tivo similar plane parts having hooked-recesses at the adjacent extremities and slots adapted to be brought into register with similar openings in the iiXed portion of the valve, a pivoted member disposed'centrally of the said valve, arms on said member to cooperate with said' hook shaped recesses, and a third arm connected by a link to said deflector, so that on rotation of said pivoted member a separating or meeting movement of said similar plane parts is eiected, and a simultaneous movement of the defleetor.
3. A Ventilating valve of the hit and miss type having a defleotor pivoted thereto, Va
divided movable plate Within the said valve, said plate consisting of two similar plane parts having hooked recesses at the adjacent extremities, and slots adapted to be brought into Vregister With similar openings in the fixed portion of the valve, a solid link member Connecting said hook shaped recesses,
being connected to said deflector by a link member, so Vthat on rotation of the said pivotal axis therigid link is turned to effectv a separating or meeting movement of said plane parts and the required registration of' the slots therein with the slots in the iixed portion, and a corresponding and simul taneous movement of the deflector.
ln testimony whereof I affix my signature.
THoMAs NEILsoN.
