Specification of Letters Patent.

Application filed April'29, 1919. Serial No. 293,416.
. To all whom it may concem:
Beit known that I, PAsQUALE SANTA EMMA, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at the city of Venice, County of Los Angeles, State of California, have invented a newand useful Improvement in Cornet-Mutes, of which the following is a full, clear, concise, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which form a part of this specification.
My invention relates generally to mutes, and more particularly to mutes especially adapted and designed for use in v``lconnection with cornets and other musical instruments of the horn variety.
One object of my invention is to provide .a mute comprised of double annular walls which join at one end, forming a central passage, flared at one end, and an annular chamber with a closure at one end, surrounding the central passage.
In the accompanying drawings Figure 1 is a side elevation of the mute.
Fig. 2 .is a vertical sectional view of the mute inserted in the outlet of a cornet.
Fig. '3 is an end elevation of the front end of the mute.
Fig. 4 is an end elevation of the opposite end of the mute.
Referring to the drawings there is rovided a bell 1, comprising an inner wa l 2, and an outer wall 3, providing a centralpas'- save 4, and an annular chamber 5 surrounding the central passage. The walls 2 'and 3 are fiared at one end providing an enlarged outlet 6 for. the central passage 4. The walls 2 and 3 are joined adjacent the outlet 6 forming a closure for the annular chamber 5.
The annular chamber 5 has an intake 7 adjacent the intake 8 ofsthe annular wall 2.
The exterior of the mute is of a general shape adapted for insertion within the outlet of a cornet or other musical instrument of the horn variety. If Ieeded, tape or other suitable material is put around the neck of the mute to secure' a tight fit within the horn.A Y
-What I claim as my invention is A mute for a comet or other musical finstruments of the horn variety, comprising double annular walls, providing a round central passage and an annular chamber i surrounding the central passage, the central passage being-.flared at one end, and the annular wall of the central passage and the annular wall of the annular chamber' being joined adjacent the outlet of the central passage forming a closure for the annular chamber.
