No. 134,274, Patented Dec.24, 1872.
IryMff NM. PHOT0-LITHOGRAPHIC CQNMHJSHURNEZS PROBES UNITED STATES PATENT OFFIoE.
WILLIAM BARNETT, or BROOKLYN, NEW YORK.
IMPROVEMENT IN APPARATUS FOR MIXING DRINKS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 134,274, dated December 24, 1872.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM HARNETT, of Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State of N ew- York, have invented a new and Improved Apparatus for Mixing Drinks; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable those skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawing forming part of this specification, in which drawing- Figure 1 represents a vertical central section of my invention, and Fig. 2 is a horizontal section of the same.
Similar letters indicate corresponding parts.
This invention consists in a platform which is provided with a series of sockets for the reception of tumblers, and which is fitted on a rod, round which is wound a spring, in combination with a plunger, fitted on the guiderod, and provided with a series of covers, which, when the plunger is depressed, fit over the tumblers contained in the sockets of the platform in such a manner that when the tumblers are filled with the materials to be mixed and the plunger is alternately depressed and released the operation of mixing the drinks in all the tumblers contained in the platform can be effected in a short time and without trouble.
In the drawing, the letter A designates a platform which contains a series of sockets, a, each to receive a tumbler, B. The platform is fitted on a rod, 0, which rises from a stand or foot, D, and a spring, E, which is wound round the rod (J, supports the platform A. From the upper end of this platform rises a tube, 1), on which is fitted a plunger, F, which contains a series of covers, G, intended to fit the tumblers in the platform A. The plunger is operated by a handle, H, and it is held in the correct position in relation to the platform A by means of a key or stop, 0.
The interior of the covers G may be lined with India rubber to enable them to hug the tumblers closely whenever the plunger is depressed.
When the tumblers have been filled with the materials to be mixed they are inserted into the sockets of the platform A, the plunger is put in motion by alternately depressing and releasing the same, whereby a jump ing motion is imparted to the tumbler-containing platform together with-the plunger, and the contents of the tumblers are readily and quickly mixed.
The great advantage of this apparatus will be fully appreciated by those skilled in the art.
WVhat I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The combination of a tumbler -containing platform with a spring and with a plunger carrying a series of covers to fit the tumblers contained in the platform, the whole constructed and operating substantially in the manner and for the purpose herein shown and. described.
This specification signed by me this 25th day of November, 1872.
WILLIAM BARNETT.
