Be it known. that I, FRANK Mossnnne, a citizen of the United State and resident of s Attleboro,-in the county of ristol and State of Massachusetts, have inventedce'rtain new and useful Improvements 1n Reels or Beams,
of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to reels or beams of the character on which yarn, wire or the like is wound; and the object of this invention is to provide such a reel or beam wh1ch is strong and durable. and inexpens1ve 1n construction, the same beingprovided with rib recesses formed in the inner face of each of its head members, and means being provided for closing said recesses for a portion of their length at and adjacent to the juncture of the body portion. and the heads for the purpose of preventing the yarn or material wound upon the reel from becoming-crowded or jammed into said recesses and also providing simple and effective means for centrallysupporting the body portion on the heads.
With these and other objects in view, the invention consists of certain novel features of construction, as will be more fully de-- scribed, and particularly pointed out in the ap ended claims.

Referring to the drawings, 10 designates the two headmembers' which are secured to opposite ends of the bOdYPOItIOIi 11. Each of these beam-heads is provided with a main plate 12 whose center portion 13 is pressed outwardly from the plane thereof and which plate is also recessed at intervals as at l kproviding radial, stifi'ening ribs 15.
In some instances it is found necessary that these rib recesses should be closed at the line of juncture .between the body and bead-plates, and it is also of advantage that these closing members extend outwardly from the juncture line so as to efiectually prevent the yarn from being crowded or forced into these rib recesses to prevent binding or jamming that portion which is called upon to withstand the greatest crowding pressure.
To accomplish this closing of the recesses in a simple and effective way, I have pro-- vided a plurality of members 16 which are" shaped to set into the rib recesses 14 so that the outer face of each will be flush with the plane of the inner face of the head. The

The oppositehead. members of'this beam or reel may be connected to the body por-' tionby any suitable means but I have shown a central tubular member 20 having its ends 21 riveted into theoppos'ite head members, and I have also shown a series of throu h bolts 22 for further assisting in binding t e head to the ends of the body members.
A reel of my present construction is very simple and inexpensive to make and is practical and effective in its operation.
The foregoing description is directed solely toward the construction illustrated, but I desire it to be understood that I reserve the. privilege ofresorting to all the mechanical changes to which the device is cessed at intervals on its inner surface form,-
