To all whom it may concern.
Be it known that I, RAYMOND BOROHERDT, a citizen of the United States, residing at Naturita, in the county of lllontrose and State of Colorado, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Blower Attachments for Drills; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to drills such as are employed for drilling rock, coal, drilling holes for prospecting purposes, or analogous operations, and the primary object of the invention is to provide a blower attachment which may be mounted over the shank end of the drill for guiding a blast of air downwardly through the drill to blow the cuttings upwardly out of the hole about the outer surface of the drill.
Another object of this invention is to provide a drill as specified which is provided with a longitudinally extending, centrally disposed opening and a collar adjacent to its shank end, and further to provide a blower attachment for the drill which includes a handle having a drill engaging fork formed thereupon to which is pivotally connected through the medium of pivoted links, a cup or cap for mounting over the shank of the drill to guide an air tube to the central opening in the drill.
With the foregoing and other objects in View, this invention consists in such novel features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter more fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and claimed.
In describing the invention in detail, reference will be had to the accompayning drawings wherein, like characters designate like and corresponding parts throughout the several views, and in which Figure 1 is a side'elevation oi the improved attachment showing the same applied to a drill; n

is commonly employed for drilling blast holes in coal, rock or the like, which is illustrated as being hexagonal in shape and has the drawings.
The air hose 6 extends through the closed end 7 of a cap 8 which cap is cylindrical in shape and provided with a bore for receiving the shank end of the bit 1. The closed end 7 of the cap 8 is provided with a bore 9 through which the air hose 6 extends and a gasket 10 is mounted with-in the bore of the cap about the air hose for forming an air-tight joint between the upper end of the bit and the inner end of the bore of the cap.
The cap 8 has a pair of arms 12 and 13 pivotally connected thereto by means of bolts or analogous members 14. The arms 12 and 13 are pivotally connected by means of bolts 14. to the enlarged arms 16 of a handle structure 17. The handle structure 17 comprises the fork. which is formed of the arms 16 and the hand grip portion 18 which is bent intermediate its ends as shown at 19 so as to enable the operator to secure a firm grip upon the cap and its supporting structure. The upper edges 20 of the arms 16 are curved cam-like, and they are provided for engagement with the lower edge of a collar 21 which is formed upon the shank of the drill 1 for securely holding the cap 8 upon the shank end of the drill.
When it is desired to blow the cuttings out ot a hole which has been cut by the drill 1, the cap 8 is placed over the shank end of the drill, and the handle structure 17 is operated for slipping the forked end over the drill shank below the collar 21. By pressing downwardly upon the hand grip portion $22 of the handle 17, the cam surfaces 20 will he forced in engagement with the under surface of the collar 21 and. will drawn downwardly upon the cap, securely holding it upon the upper end of the drill. The air is then turned on, which will blow a blast or head of air through the opening 3, throughout the entire length of the drill and blow the cuttings from the bottom of a hole formed by the drill upwardly around the drill and out the top of the hole. If it is so desired, the cuttings may be saved.
If it is desired, a water hose or tube may be connected to the cap 8 in lieu ofthe air hose 6, for leading a stream of water into the drill hole, without departing from the spirit of this invention.
In reducing the invention to practice, certain minor features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts may necessitate alterations to which the patentee is entitled, provided such alterations are comprehended within the scope of what is claimed.
What is claimed is 1. The combination with a manually operated drill bit having a longitudinally extending centrally disposed bore formed therein, an annular collar formed upon the bit a short distance below its shank end, of a cap mounted over the shank end of the hit, an air hose carried by said cap and adapted for communication with the central bore of the bit for leading a blast of air downwardly through the bit, and means connected to said cap and adapted for coaction erated drill bit provided with a longitudinally extending centrally disposed bore, an annular collar formed upon said bit a short distance below its shank end, of a cap mounted over the shank end of said bit, a pair of links pivotally connected to said cap, a handle member pivotally connected to said links and having one end forked, the upper edges of the arms of said fork being arcuate for engagement with said bit carried collar for securely clamping said cap upon said bit upon downward movement of the handle end of said handle.
3. The combination with a manually operated drill having a longitudinally extending bore formed centrally therein, of a cap mounted upon the shank end of said drill, a
hose connection on said cap adapted for communication with a blower of the drill bit for blowing fluid downwardly through the bars, and means carried by said handle for engagement with said bit for securely clamping said cap upon the top of the bit shank.
