Description

H. G. INGRAM AND S. GOLDBERG.
Pownfn nlsPENsmG DEVICE.
APPLICATION FILED OCT. I6. 1919.
1 ',341, 174, Patentd May 25, 1920.
@ww/Miou vflanged and secured to UNITED STATESl PATENT OFFICE.
nomen G. menu, or JUNIATA, AND SAMUEL GoLDBEnG, or ALTOONA,` PENNSYL- VANIA.
To all whom t may concern:
Be it known that we, HORACE G. INGRAM, a citizen of the United States, residing at Juniata, count of Blair, and State of Penns lvania, and AMU'nL (loLDnERG, a citizen of the United States, residinfr at Altoona, in the county of Blair and Srtatc of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Powder-Dispensing Devices; and we do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to improvements in powder dispensing devices.
The princi al object is to provide a simple and practica device of this character in `which the construction is extremelyT simple and in which the device is formed to dispense an equal quantity every time it is operated.
With the above and other objects in view, the invention consists of certain novel features of construction and the combination and arrangement of arts as will b more fully described and claimed.
We attain these objects by the mechanism illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a vertical sectional View of the device showing the parts in normal' position; l
` Fig. 2 is a section on the line 2--2 of Fig. 1; and,
ig. 3, a. section on the line 3--3 of Fig. 1.
Similar reference numerals designate similar parts throughout the several views.
Reference is now had to the drawing in which a powder container 1 is shown sup\ orted on a wall or the likeV by means of a racket 2 of any preferred type. The Vcon-j tainer 1 is provided at its upper end with an inlet opening having a screw cover 3 as illusi trated. Positioned adjacent the lower end of the container is a length of metal shaped to form a downwardly tapered wall 4 provided centrally with an elongated outletopenin 5 through which powder passes '-l from t e container. "f
Disposed below the container outlet opening 5 is a Hat bottom plate 6, which is the extreme lower said plate being pro- 7 offset from vertical end of the container, vided with an opening Specification of Letters Patent.
Application tiled October 16,
Patented May 25, 1920.
1919. serial No. 331,220.
tween the bottom of plate (l and the container outlet 5 and lis provided with an opening 11 to aline with the container outlet. The metal which is cut to form the opening 11 is bent rearwardly and thencut to form agitating teeth 12 to project in the container through the outlet opening 5. The body of the plunger plate extends rearwardly to form a cover 13 which closes the container outlet when the device is operated.
'lhe container body is provided with an opening in one side, through which projects an operating stem 1.4 formed of a single length of wire.. the inner end of which. is bent to form a loop 1.5, said loop being soldered or otherwise suitably secured to the lower face of said plunger plate. The loop is of a size to surround the opening 11'. in the plunger plate and form a pocket'in which` 85 i the stem and normally retains the parts in the position shown in Fig. 1..
In operation, the container being filled with a powder such as soap in powdered form, and the parts being arranged as illus trated in Fig. 1 with the handle extend ing toward the wall. the fingers are pressed against the handle 16 and the pocket containing the powder is pushed forwardly into alinement with the opening in the bottom plate. and the powder is delivered therethrough into the palm of' the hand. It :is very apparent that should the powder benl come packed in the lower end, the agitating fin ers may be moved to loosen it.
he openings in thebottom plate. plunger plate and container are preferably of uniform size and shape, and although they are illustrated as vbeing elongated and angular, it is understood that they may be of any preferred shape and size.
From the foregoing description, taken in connection, with the accompanying drawings, the construction and operation of the invention will be understood without requiring a more extended explanation.
Varlous changes in the form, proportion and minor details of construction may be resorted to without departing from the principle br sacriicing any of the advantages of the claimed invention.
We claim "-1. The combination with a container having a filling opening-therein and an outlet opening in its lower end, of a bottom plate disposed below said 'outlet opening in parallel relation therewith, said plate having an openingoffset from the container outlet,
'a pair of parallel spaced guide wires secured to the upper face of Said plate, a flat metal vplunger plate slidable between said `container' outlet and bottom plate, said plunger plate having an opening of the same size as the container outlet and having its edges turned down over said guide wires, a wire operating stem extending through one side of said container, a loop formed on the inner end of said stem, said loop being secured tothe lower face of said plunger plate around its opening to form a pocket for receiving powder from the container outlet and conveying it to the opening inthe bottom plate.
2. The combinatlon with a container having a filling opening therein and an outlet opening in its lower end, of a bottom plate disposed below said outlet o ening in parallel relation therewith, said) plate having an opening oset from the container outlet and ofsimilar contour, a substantially U-shaped wire frame secured to the uppelI face of said bottom' plate, and partially iuclosing'the opening in said plate, the arms of said frame serving as guides, a fiat metal plunger plate slidable between said container outlet and bottom plate, said plunger v .said plunger plate being bent upward rearwardly into the container outlet and eut to form agitator fingers, a handle on the outer end of said stem, and a coil spring surrounding the stem between the container and handle to aline the pocket with the container outlet, said plunger-plate being movable forwardly to discharge powder through the opening in said bottom plate and the rear end portion of said plunger plate serving to 4close the containeroutlet while the powder is being discharged from said pocket.
` In testimony whereof we have hereunto set our hands.
HORACE G. INGRAM. SAMUEL GOLDBERG.
