NATHANIEL MOLE, OF BAY CITY, MICHIGAN.
-IMPROVEMENT IN HEELS FOR BOOTS AND SHOES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 134,087, dated December 17, 1872.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, NATHANIEL MOLE, of Bay City, in the county of Bay and State of Michigan, have invented a new and useful Improvement in'Heels for Boots and Shoes; and I do declare that the following is a true and accurate description thereof, reference being to the boot; and Fig. 4. is a similar view of the under side of the revolving section of the heel.
Like letters refer to like parts in each figure.
The nature of this invention relates to an improvement in the construction of removable revolving heels for boots and shoes so arranged that at his pleasure the wearer may rotate the same from time to time, as it mars,
so that a new and perfect part may be pre sented to wear. The invention consists in the peculiar mechanism by means of which the revolving section of the heel is secured to the stationary or fixed part of the shoe.
In the accompanying drawing, A represents the foundation-section of the heel, which should be rigidly secured to the boot or shoe. In the center of the outer side of this section there is a shallow recess to receive the metallic disk B, which rotates within the recess. This disk is held in place by the metallic rim l or ring 0, which is nailed to the outer surface of the heel. Projecting outwardly from this disk are studs a, or a flange cut away at intervals, as shown in. the drawing. The periphory of the circle described by these studs the ring, thereby allowing the disk to freely rotate while it is held in place by the ring. D
heel, upon the upper side of which, and in the center thereof, is rigidly secured the plate E, let into the leather so that a smooth surface is presented. The edges of this plate E are ing to the lugs, studs, or cut-away flange on the disk B. A screw, F, passing through the rovolvin g section, enters the center of the disk B and holds said section in place. These sections, revolving, may be readily removed by withdrawing the screw, and replaced by a new one, as desired.
I am aware that revolving heels have been in use 5 consequentlyI do not claim the revolving heel itself; but
WVhat I do claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
In combination with said foundation A, disk B, and ring 0, the heel D provided with plate E and screw F, substantially as described, and for the purposes set forth.
- NATHANIEL MOLE.
