Description

B. RUCZYNSKI.
SASH LOCK.
APPLICATION HLED AUG.23, 1919.
Patented May 18, 1920.
Boleslw czfgnski an!" @mowing BOLESLAW RUCZYNSKI, 0F INDIANA HARBOR, INDIANA.
SASH-LOCK.
Specification of Letters Patent. Patented May 18, 1920.l
Application filed August 23, 1919. Serial No. 319,473.
To all whom t may concern.'
Be it known that I, BoLEsLAW RUozYNsKI, a citizen of Poland, residing at Indiana Harbor, county of Lake, and State of In diana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Sash-Locks, of which the following is a specification.
This invention has for its principal object the provision of means whereby a sash may be held in adjusted relation to the window frame at any point along its length, the locking device being operable from the interior of the building'in which the window is placed.
A further object is to provide a locking means comprised of few and simple parts which are cheaply constructed and easily operated when in an assembled position within the window sash.
These objects are attained by the novel construction and combination of parts hereinafter described and shown in the accompanying drawings, forming a material part of this disclosure, and in which- Figure 1 is a fragmentary front eleva tional view showing a conventional type of window sash and indicating the application of the invention, and Y Fig. 2 is a transverse sectional view taken on line 2--2 of Fig. 1.
Referring to the drawings in detail, the numeral 10 indicates a part of the window frame having a cover portion 11, while the numeral 12 designates a conventional form of sash in which is secured a transparent pane 13.
Formed in one of the `sash sides is a recess 14, in which is secured a metal plate 15, mounting a pair of raised brackets 16 in which, pivoted on the pin 17, and formed with the bent upper end of the lever 18, is a detent 19, engageable in a rack 20, set in the window casing and extended longitudinally throughout Vits length in the path in which the sash passes in raising" or lowering the same.
Pivotally engaged in the lower end of the lever 18 is a link 21, enga ing at its lower downturned end with a sli e 22, movable on .the plate 15 and guided by a pair of levers 23, fulcrumed on pins 24, the outer ends of the levers being pivotally connected with links 25, engaged with arms 26, pivoted on pins 27, fixed in the plate 15.
Over this mechanism is disposed a cover plate28, having an opening through which extends a lever 29, its pointV engaging in an opening 80, formed in the slide 22, the-lever being pivoted on a transverse pin 31, operating in the slot 32, in the window sash, the lever 29 terminating in an extending operating handle 33, movable over a segment 34.
In operation, when it is desired to raise or lower the window, the lever handle 33' is actuated by moving it away from the window frame, this movement releasing the deytent 19 from engagement with the rack and permitting the sash to be raised or lowered Y as may be desired.
Obviously when the sash Vhas been adjusted to a desired height the lever is moved in the opposite direction, causing the detent 19 to engage with the teeth of the rack, holding the sash securely in a locked position.
Having thus described my invention and set forth the manner of its construction, application and use what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is*
In a sash lock, the combination with a window frame, and a'window sash slidably engaged therein, of a rack fixedly engaged in said window frame adjacent to the pathway of said sash, a plate fixed in said sash, brackets extending into a recess in said sash from said plate, a lever pivoted in said brackets, a detent formed with said lever engageable with the teeth of said rack, a slide movable on said plate within said re-k cess, a link engaging said slide and the lower end of said lever, pairs of guide levers engaged with said slide whereby it is caused to move in a straight path transversely in the mentioned recess, and an actuating handle engaged with said slide, extending through said sash into position for operation.
In testimony whereof I have aiiiiredmyV signature.
